Maggie Prewitt

Maggie Prewitt returns to the Transylvania women’s basketball coaching staff for her sixth season as an assistant coach for the Pioneers. Prewitt rejoins the Pioneer staff after taking off the 2020-2021 season.

In her most recent season as part of the full-time staff with Transylvania women’s basketball, the Pioneers won their first of two consecutive Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles during the 2019-2020 season. Prewitt helped the Pioneers achieve a 27-3 overall record and reach the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 round for the first time as a program.

With Prewitt on staff, the Pioneers have reached the HCAC title game in four of five seasons and have reached the NCAA Tournament twice during her tenure with the team.

Prewitt brings extensive coaching and playing perspective in her role as an assistant with the Pioneers.

In her first year at Transy, Prewitt helped guide the Pioneers into an 18-0 HCAC regular season record and the Pioneers earned an at-large bid to the NCAA. Prewitt was an integral part of a 2015-2016 squad which continued its success, earning a 14-4 HCAC regular season record and recording a third-place finish in the conference tournament.

2016-17 brought a youthful roster which Prewitt was instrumental in developing. Her efforts developing a young roster with zero seniors resulted in another 20-win season for the Pioneers, culminating in an HCAC Championship game appearance.

As assistant coach, Prewitt’s array of responsiblities have included directing guard play development, scouting and recruiting, running team social media platforms, and overseeing summer team and individual camps, as well as hosting day camps during the school year.

Prior to joining the Transylvania staff, Prewitt worked as the head coach for the middle school and freshmen women’s basketball teams and an assistant coach for the JV and varsity women’s basketball teams in the Bath County School District.

In the summer of 2015, Prewitt joined a select number of elite women's assistants from across the country as part of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association Leadership Workshop hosted by the United States Marine Corps. The four day workshop was designed to teach assistant coaches small unit leadership including tactics, techniques and procedures, providing for unity of command.

A 2012 Centre College graduate, Prewitt had a decorated playing career, leading the Colonels to a Sweet 16 run in her senior season of 2012. As a player, Prewitt was named 2009 SCAC Newcomer of the Year, 2010 SCAC First Team, two-time SCAC Player of the Year (2011, 2012), South Region Player of the Year and a D3Hoops.com First Team All-American (2012).

Prewitt earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Spanish from Centre.
