Mark Morrell Elmhurst College Mens Lacrosse Coach

Mark Morrell is entering his seventh season as the head coach of the Elmhurst men's lacrosse team.

Last season, Morrell guided the Bluejays to its best-ever season in the program's six-year history. Elmhurst finished the season with a 13-3 overall record and rattled off nine consecutive victories. The Bluejays placed second in the CCIW with a 5-1 record while also qualifying for the CCIW Tournament for the fourth straight season. Morrell took home CCIW Coach of the Year Honors while Mac Harden, Jacob Delgado, Trent Nyberg, Eric Langston, Carter Meyer, Noah Monahan and Marcus Yandall were all named to the all-conference team. Harden was named the league's Offensive Player of the Year while also taking home all-region accolades. Nyberg also earned all-region accolades for the Bluejays.

In 2017, Morrell guided Elmhurst to an 8-9 overall record and its third straight trip to the CCIW Tournament. A record six Bluejays earned all-conference honors with Mac Harden and Eric Langston receiving first-team honors and Nick Bonastia, Dan Curley, Ty Funderburk and Noah Monahan taking home second-team accolades.

In 2015, the Bluejays finished 7-9 overall and scored a trip to the first-ever CCIW Tournament. Four Bluejays earned all-conference accolades in 2014 including Jackson Mandli on the first-team and Brandon Bethran, Kalani Flowers and Nick Klenck on the second-team.

In just their second season as a varsity sport in 2014, Morrell coached a Bluejays' team that produced three all-conference selections, including Drew Wassenaar who was named the Midwest Lacrosse Conference's Rookie of the Year.

A former assistant coach at Wittenberg, Morrell guided Elmhurst to a 4-10 overall record in the team's debut season in 2013. Freshmen defender Jack Albertini was named to the Midwest Lacrosse Conference's honorable mention all-conference list.

Morrell spent five seasons as an assistant coach at Wittenberg. While at Wittenberg, he served as the Tigers' defensive coordinator while also assisting with face-offs and recruiting.

In Morrell's time as an assistant coach, Wittenberg won back-to-back North Coast Athletic Conference championships and earned consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and 2011. The Tigers finished the 2001 season ranked 15th in the nation and enjoyed four straight seasons with a winning record. As a defensive coach, Morrell's 2010 and 2011 Wittenberg squads ranked among the national leaders in goals against average. He also coached a pair of players who earned all-America honors, the first players in Wittenberg lacrosse history to achieve the honors.

Morrell joined the Wittenberg coaching staff after a four-year playing career at Wittenberg. A defender for the Tigers, he totaled 89 ground balls and a career face-off percentage of .540.

Morrell earned a bachelor's degree from Wittenberg and is completing his master's degree from Southern New Hampshire University. He and his wife, Kelsi, reside in Elmhurst.
