Mark Mulvany

Beginning in August 2023, Mark Mulvany will lead the Millsaps College softball program as head softball coach after serving as the lone assistant on the Southern Miss staff from 2019-22.

He holds the distinction as being a member of the only staff with three years of service in program history, which posted a winning record during their tenure. Under Mulvany's guidance as the recruiting coordinator, he signed the No. 29 nationally ranked recruiting class in 2021 and the No. 34 nationally ranked recruiting class in 2022. These recruiting classes were both the top-ranked classes in Conference USA and would pay immediate dividends for the NCAA Division I team.

In the 2022 season, Southern Miss would defeat No. 4 ranked and College World Series participant Florida with five starting freshmen. That same season the Golden Eagles would go 6-4 against RPI top 40 programs, also defeating Super Regional host Mississippi State.

Senior Destini Brown would be named First Team All-Conference for the second time and NFCA All-Region. She set the school stolen base record and also became the first Southern Miss softball player to sign a professional contract (Texas Smoke). Graduate Alyssa Davis would receive her second nod as a First Team All-Conference selection while setting the school record for hits and RBIs. Freshman Jana Lee was named to the CUSA All-Freshman Team and was also named to the NFCA All-Region Team.

Mulvany's impact would be felt right away at Southern Miss, spending time in 2020 as the nation's top scoring offense. The Golden Eagles would finish the 2020 campaign ranked in the top 20 nationally in eight different offensive categories. The team led the nation in walks per game, ranked third in total walks, fourth in total triples and triples per game, fifteenth in on-base percentage and runs per game, nineteenth in doubles per game and twentieth in doubles.

In addition to the on-the-field performance, Southern Miss excelled in the classroom achieving the highest GPA in program history in back-to-back semesters. A total of 19 Southern Miss student-athletes were named to the President's List and 41 players were named to the Dean's List. In addition, 27
players were awarded the CUSA Commissioner's Academic Medal.

Prior to Southern Miss, Mulvany owned and operated Scout Softball in Houston, Texas. Scout was a national player development and scouting platform that discovered and trained six professional players, 10 NFCA Division I All-Americans and 70 NFCA D1 All-Region players. Over the course of ten years, players such as Braxton Burnside (Arkansas), Kat Sandercock (FSU/Athlete's Unlimited), Chenice Delce (Arkansas/Athlete's Unlimited), Taylor Ellsworth (Texas/USSSA Pride), Ashley Walters (Texas A&M/Scrapyard Dawgs), Ivie Drake (GA State/National Freshman of the Year runner-up) would come through Scout Softball along with national champions at all levels of play.

Mulvany began developing players in 2003, eventually opening the first fastpitch-softball-only facility in Texas, the Southlake Softball Academy, in 2005. He began consulting with college programs with hitting and advanced scouting and also began serving as an associate scout for the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball. Ultimately, Mulvany would combine his passion for player development and scouting to create Scout Softball, assisting over 2,000 athletes play college softball.

Coach Mulvany graduated from Kemp High School where he was a unanimous county MVP, unanimous District MVP and First Team All-State. He played collegiately at Eastfield College and Sam Houston State, earning All-MAC and TX/NM All-Region honors.

Mulvany holds a Master's in Education with a concentration in Sport Coaching in Performance from Southern Miss. He resides in Petal, Miss. with his wife of 18 years, Candace, who teaches kindergarten at Petal Primary School. They have two children, Boston, 16, and Ellington, 13.
