Mary Ann Falcosky

Mary Anne Falcosky

Mary Ann Falcosky will be entering her 19th season at USD, and 24th year with Coach Fisher, as an assistant coach in the 2023-24 season. Falcosky has a wealth of coaching experience at both the Division I and junior college levels and over 20 years of recruiting experience.

Falcosky has been a key part of USD winning at least 20 games in six of the past 12 seasons.

Under Falcosky, the Toreros returned to the WNIT for the second consecutive year and reached the Super 16 in 2023, going 19-14 overall and finishing third in the WCC. Ayanna Khalfani was named the WCC's Co-Defensive Player of the Year and the Toreros finished with several All-WCC honorees, including forward Kasey Neubert who took a big step forward under Falcosky's leadership.

The Toreros saw a return to the WNIT during the 2021-22 season, going 17-15 and reaching the second round with a win over California Baptist. Sydney Hunter was named to the All-WCC First Team, while Jordyn Edwards took home WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors under Falcosky.

Despite a time period marred by the COVID-19 pandemic, Falcosky and the Toreros continued to make waves, with another 20 win season during the 2019-20 campaign. The Toreros nearly qualified for the NCAA Tournament, falling just one point shy against Portland in the WCC Championship and were slated to compete in the WNIT before the event's cancelation that spring.

The 2017-18 saw another winning season, going 17-15 overall, with the Toreros battling all the way to the WCC Championship game, before falling to Gonzaga in the final.

In 2016-17, the Toreros went 25-7 and finished second in the WCC with a 14-4 conference record. They qualified for the WNIT for the fifth consecutive season and advanced to their second Super 16 appearance in the past three seasons. Under Falcosky's watch, Maya Hood was named the Defensive Player of the Year and Malina Hood earned All-WCC First team honors.

In 2015, Falcosky played a key role in helping guide senior forward Sophia Ederaine to the WCC Defensive Player of the Year distinction, making Ederaine the first player in program history to take home the honor. Ederaine led the nation in blocked shots with 152, and also broke a 22-year old single-season blocked shots record at USD. With Falcosky's help, USD had an unprecedented fourth consecutive 20-win season, as USD posted a 25-7 overall record, finished second in the WCC at 14-4 and made its fourth consecutive trip to the WNIT. Under her tutelage, the senior class was able to graduate with an overall four-year mark of 97-25.

In the 2013-14 season, Falcosky helped lead USD to an overall record of 24-9, the second most wins in program history, and reached the Super 16 of the WNIT for the second time in three years. USD opened the season with a perfect 15-0 record, which led to the programs fist-ever national ranking of No. 24 in both the Associate Press and Coaches top-25 polls. The 15-0 start was both the best in program history, and for any athletic team at USD in the Division I era. The WNIT appearance marked the first time in program history that USD has made three consecutive postseason appearances.

In 2012-13, Falcosky assisted the Toreros in a 22-10 season and reached the second round of the WNIT. USD also had a 12-4 mark in the WCC, good for second in the WCC, and San Diego managed to reach the championship game of the WCC Tournament. This marked only the second time in program history that USD has made back-to-back postseason appearances, and both times have come under the watchful eye of head coach Cindy Fisher and coach Falcosky. USD did all of this despite losing a pair of 1,000-point scorers and the team's leading rebounder from the previous season. Coach Falcosky helped the Toreros produce the WCC Freshman of the Year in Maya Hood, and had three total players earn All-WCC honors, highlighted by first-teamer Amy Kame.

In the 2011-12 season, Falcosky helped the Toreros soar to new heights, as the team posted a 26-9 overall record, and a 12-4 mark in the WCC. The 26 wins is a program record, as well as the 12 WCC wins. USD not only finished second in the WCC, but they went on to record the program's first postseason win, as USD defeated Cal State Northridge in the first round of the WNIT, 60-58. USD didn't stop there, as they went on to reach the Fab Four of the WNIT. USD reached the Fab Four by defeating Pacific, Texas Tech, and Washington, before falling to eventual WNIT champion Oklahoma State. The season is now largely considered the best season in program history.

In only her third season with the Toreros, Falcosky helped guide the team back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years, as USD won the WCC Tournament championship with a 70-66 win over top-seeded Gonzaga. The 2007-08 season marked back-to-back trips to the postseason for the Toreros with Falcosky on the coaching staff.

During only her second season at USD, she helped guide the Toreros to their biggest turnaround in program history, a 12-game improvement from 9-19 in the 2005-06 season to a 21-9 record in 2006-07 season. Under Falcosky's guidance, the Toreros placed three players on the All-WCC teams, including the WCC Co-Player of the Year Amanda Rego.

Prior to joining the USD staff, Falcosky completed a two-year stint as an assistant coach at Weber State in Ogden, Utah. Falcosky was essential in helping Weber State compile a 38-18 record between 2002-2005, including a 21-8 finish in the 2004-2005 season.

Her main responsibilities on the Wildcat staff included the individual development of both post and guard players, organizing team travel, assisting with recruiting, organizing and running the high school jamboree camps, marketing and promoting the program, working with the strength and conditioning coach regarding preseason, in-season, and post season strength training and assisting on the court with both offense and defense.

Prior to joining the Weber State staff, Falcosky spent five years as an assistant coach at the University of Wyoming, alongside Coach Fisher. While at Wyoming, Falcosky was instrumental in implementing an academic program, which resulted in 32 players being recognized on an Academic All-Conference Team, and the WBCA recognizing the 2001-02 Wyoming women's team for having the highest GPA in the country among Division I institutions. Other duties included assisting with all aspects of organizing and running one of the largest team camps (1,800 attendees) in the country, coordinating and assisting with recruiting efforts which attracted student-athletes from the northwest, west, and midwest regions and having contributed to the development of seven players who were able to continue their careers playing professionally overseas.

Prior to working at Wyoming, Falcosky was an assistant at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz. for four years. Her 1998-99 recruiting class finished the season ranked 5th in the NJCAA Division II poll.

A native of Tempe, Ariz., Falcosky is a 1993 graduate of Northern Arizona University and holds her masters degree in kinesiology and health from the University of Wyoming.
