Randy Livingston

The New Orleans native, Coach Randy Livingston attended the Isidore Newman School and led the Greenies to three consecutive state championships (1991, 1992, 1993) and a four-year record of 114-15. As a junior and senior, he won Parade Magazine’s Player of the Year and as a senior, was named the Naismith National Player of the Year. Randy played in the McDonald’s All-America game and Magic Johnson’s Roundball Classic. He was also named to the USA Today All-America first team and his jersey was retired at Newman in 2013.

Randy entered the 1996 NBA Draft and was selected by the Houston Rockets as the 42nd overall pick. He would play in the NBA for Houston, Atlanta, Phoenix, Golden State, Seattle, New Orleans, the Clippers, Utah and Chicago during his 11-year career. Randy also played parts of two seasons during that time with the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the CBA (winning a league title in 2005) and during much of the 2006-08 seasons with the Idaho Stampede of the NBADL where he was named league MVP in 2007 and helped the team capture the Championship title in 2008. Randy scored 3,429 points in his career (26.6 ppg) with 8.8 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.

After retiring from playing basketball, Randy immediately started coaching, which was a natural transition for the point guard who was always considered an extension of the coach on the court. Randy’s coaching style and philosophy has been developed over years playing for an array of esteemed coaches including Gregg Popovich, Rudy Tomjanovich and Nate McMillan, as well as Newman’s own Coach Billy Fitzgerald & local AAU legend Coach William Robinson.

Randy returned to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, after spending several years in Australia where he founded LivOn Basketball in 2012 to expand his range of basketball activities to include coaching camps and clinics, speaking appearances and delivering scouting and recruiting services for Australian and New Zealand men and women players.

In 2016, Randy was inducted into the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame, cementing his status as a local legend.
