Matthew Johann

Matthew Johann is the Head Women's and Men's Volleyball Coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

Matthew Johann joined the College of Mount Saint Vincent in the fall of 2022, when he was hired as both the men's and women's volleyball head coach while also being named an assistant athletic director with a focus on the facilities department.

Johann was most recently on the sidelines with Division I Coastal Carolina University, where he aided in the program's recruiting efforts and scheduling. Johann also spent five combined years on the coaching staff for both Division I Cornell University and Division I Syracuse University between 2015 and 2019. Johann worked with recruiting and scouting for Cornell while helping the program record the most wins in 13 years during the 2019 season. Johann held similar duties with the Orange while assisting in 52 total wins over his tenure.

Johann's experience goes beyond the college ranks. The Long Island, New York native held multiple positions with the Downstate Juniors Volleyball Club, including head coach, recruiting coordinator and social media manager. He also climbed the USA Volleyball Pipeline as a coach from 2012 to 2019.

Johann graduated Juniata College in May of 2014 and worked as a student coach with the men's volleyball program, a program who was ranked within the top three of Division III each week of his senior year in 2014. This group saw four AVCA All-Americans and was National Runner Up, falling to Springfield College in their final match. Over his four year span on the bench, Johann was responsible for player development, match preparation and scouting reports while also creating community initiatives, including the Huntingdon County Special Olympics qualifying event from 2010-2013.

Johann currently resides in Queens, New York.
