His teams have achieved numerous conference and CT State championships and he was a national finalist for Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Coach Mike Cohen taught advanced biology at Simsbury High School in Simsbury, CT for the majority of his thirty-five year teaching career before leaving the classroom.

For over thirty years Coach Cohen has coached teams and individuals from high-school age through adults. Presently, his passion is sharing his extensive knowledge of exercise physiology, sports psychology and coaching science with his runners and others. His coaching philosophy is founded on the principle of effort-based training married to the artful application of exercise science. Coach Cohen recently retired as the head coach of the boys XC running, coed indoor track & field, and the boys outdoor track & field teams. His coaching ability extends beyond distance events to middle-distance, sprints, pole vault, and the javelin throw having produced state champions in all these areas. Over the years, his teams have amassed in excess of 400 dual meet victories, numerous divisional, conference, and state titles while producing many individual State Champions as well.

Twice, Coach Cohen has been honored by the Connecticut Coaches Association, in 1994 and 2005 as the Outstanding Coach in Cross Country. He holds coaching certifications from the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, Road Runners Clubs of America, and USA Track and Field. He is proud of the numerous former runners that have gone on to become successful collegiate and post-collegiate runners. In fact, a number of his former athletes have followed in his footsteps and have become successful interscholastic coaches as well. Coach Cohen's association with Green Mountain Running Camp began over twenty years ago when, at the request of team members, he searched for a summer running camp program for them. He found that Green Mountain offered the benefit of great running venues and a knowledgeable staff that provided a solid educational opportunity for its runners. Initially, he visited the camp to observe the program and was impressed with what he saw.
