Monica Mc Donald

Head Coach Monica Wright, now in her 10th season at the helm, arrived to Westerville in 2007 and has become the most successful coach in the history of the Otterbein Volleyball program. Her career record stands at 172-119 entering the year.

Otterbein won its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) title in 2012, going 26-8 and defeating Mount Union in the league's tournament championship match. The program made four- consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances spanning 2010-13, it's first four in school history.

Wright and the Cards strung together a school-record 15-match winning streak during the 2011 season, which saw a 26-6 overall record and a five-set victory over eventual national champion Wittenberg University.

Otterbein has garnered six AVCA All-American awards and four CoSIDA Academic All-America awards over the last four seasons. The program cracked the national Top-25 poll for the first time ever in 2012 and reached as high as No. 8 in 2013.

Wright came to Otterbein in 2007 from Mount Union, where she served as assistant volleyball coach while also assisting in men’s and women’s track and field. While at Mount Union, Wright took part in a volleyball program that improved from 15-16 in 2005 to 22-10 in 2006.

A 2005 graduate of Wittenberg, she was a two-time All-American outside hitter in helping lead the Tigers into the NCAA Division III Tournament four times, including two advancements into the Elite Eight. She holds a bachelor's degree in business management and, in 2012, earned a master's degree in business administration from Otterbein.

Wright has also coached several club volleyball teams, including stints as head coach for a Mid Ohio club team for 15-year-olds (2006), and a Midwest Elite open team for 16-year-olds (2005). She also hosts Otterbein volleyball overnight and day camps for different ages and skill levels, ranging from young newcomers to college bound players.

Wright and her husband, Bobby, a 2007 Otterbein graduate and former baseball player, were recently married in December of 2014. They currently reside in Westerville.
