Nicole Thompson

Nicole Thompson, a native of nearby Loveland, Colo., is in her fifth season as the head softball coach entering the 2023-24 school year. Thompson currently owns a career record of 99-75 (.569) overall and back-to-back third place finishes in the RMAC regular season standings.

For the second straight spring, Regis posted 28 conference wins in 2023 and finished with an overall record of 33-25, 28-16 RMAC. The Rangers earned a third-place finish in the regular season standings and advanced to the RMAC Tournament semi-finals, led by four All-RMAC selections in Miia Campos (First Team), Jessi Case (Second Team), Rachel Williams (Second Team) and Kylie Harpman (Second Team).

The 2022 squad took major strides forward, finishing 35-23 overall and earning the No. 3 seed for the RMAC Tournament. Freshman pitcher Kylie Harpman earned RMAC Pitcher of the Week a school record five times while placing two players (Katherine Raper and Allisha Martinez) on the D2CCA All-South Central Region teams. Academically, the 2022 team won the softball RMAC Brechler Award for highest GPA in the conference (3.639) while having 11 players earn RMAC academic recognition.

Limited to 38 games due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Rangers posted a 21-17 record overall and a 16-14 record inside the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The team started the season with an 11-3 record, and qualified for the RMAC Tournament at the end of the season, earning the #5 seed. In the opening round game, Regis lost to #4 Colorado School of Mines, but then bounced back to beat #2 MSU Denver in the second game. They then capitalized on the momentum and beat the #6 Fort Lewis College Skyhawks to advance to Saturday. On Saturday, the team lost to #1 ranked Colorado Mesa University which eliminated them from the tournament.

In Thompson's first season as head softball coach, the Rangers compiled a 10-10 record before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

Prior to Regis, Thompson spent three seasons as the head softball coach at Union College in Barbourville, Ky.. Thompson compiled an overall record of 82-70, while her Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) record was a remarkable 50-20. She guided her team to third-place finishes in 2017 and 2018, earning AAC Coach of the Year honors in 2017. Other accomplishments at Union College include producing the second National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American in program history, five AAC All-Conference First Team players, the first-ever AAC Player of the Year in 2019, and the AAC Pitcher of the Year in 2017.

Originally accepting a position as the Assistant Director for Communications at Union College in February of 2016, Thompson served as the Interim Head Coach beginning in September of 2016 before being named the full-time head coach.

In May of 2016, Thompson completed her Master's Degree in Athletics Administration as a Graduate Assistant for Sports Information at William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri.

Thompson was a dual-sport athlete in college, competing in both softball and basketball for Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. As a softball player, she was a three-time All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) First Team selection at shortstop. Her team won two KCAC regular season championships, and one KCAC Tournament title, making two NAIA National Tournament appearances (2012, 2013). Thompson ended her collegiate career with a .362 average, .394 slugging percentage, 203 hits, and 61 RBIs. She ranks second in Bethany history with 87 career stolen bases and fourth all-time in runs scored with 128.

Thompson is also married to JT Thompson and has a daughter named Kramer.
