Sam found his love for the game when he was very young and was attracted to the game because of its fast moving pieces and the teamwork involved. After high school, where he was a four year letterman, he studied teaching and coaching in college at Kent State University. Sam served as an assistant coach for their Div. 1 women's team, which he also conducted an extended study with. After college, Sam worked for West Ham United International Academy in Mexico, where he learned to adapt and teach in a new language, as well as new ways of living. After returning to the US, Sam worked in club soccer in Ohio and directed the soccer program at an overnight sports camp in Massachusetts before being hired by LFC IA Washington.
