Coach Profile

Assistant Coach

Simon Date

Simon Date joins the Bruins' staff in 2020-21 to coach with Laura Schott. Date has coached at the club and high school levels and has also served as the Oregon Olympic Development Director (ODP).

Born in England, soccer has always been a part of Date's life. While playing pick-up at Delta Park in Portland during a 1993 trip to the U.S., he was recruited to play at Oregon State University under coach Jimmy Conway as their first international player. After four years with the Beavers - his last two as team captain - he was lucky enough to play professionally with the Portland Pride for two years.

After an injury forced early professional retirement, he played locally in Oregon for years before turning his attention to coaching. Date holds numerous coaching credentials, including: US Soccer A-License, NSCAA Director of Coaching, NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, and an NSCAA Goalkeeping Diploma.

Date feels strongly about giving back the blessings he has received through the sport and has coached at nearly every level available. His experience also extends to the refereeing ranks, as well as a three-year stint as the marketing director for OYSA. He considers himself lucky enough to have coached some of the top players in the state and has watched them go on to succeed as players in college, and as fantastic human beings if they didn’t get to play after high school. He credits his time as a TOPSoccer coach as the most rewarding.

Simon has been married to his wife, Stephanie, since 2004, and the two have three children (Naomi, Jack, and Ruby).
