Terri Bamford

Terri Bamford, Head Women's Basketball Coach at LJCDS since 1999, has been a Nike Basketball Camp Director since 1997. Bamford has led the four-time state champion women’s varsity basketball. During her tenure, Coach Bamford’s squads have posted an impressive 533-156 record, winning 16 League titles and 15 San Diego Section CIF titles (2001-2008, 2010-2013, 2020).

La Jolla Country Day School’s Women’s Basketball program is recognized as a national perennial power. Over 40 of Coach Bamford’s players have gone on to play Division I basketball.

Her teams have made 14 Southern Regional Championship appearances, winning nine (2001-2004, 2008, 2012, 2014,2015, and 2020), and have appeared in eight state championship games (2001-2004, 2008, 2012, 2014, and 2015), winning state titles in 2001, 2002, 2012 and 2015. This 2020 season Coach Bamford’s team earned the Cal-Hi State Team of the Year and Max Preps National Champions.

Coach Bamford was named the Cal-Hi Sports Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2012, the Breibart Hall of Champions Coach of the Year in 2002, Union-Tribune Coach of the Year in 2003 and 2007, and San Diego CIF Section Coach of the Year in 2020. She has also earned national honors as the 2011 WBCA District Coach of the Year and was selected to coach the WBCA 2011 High School All-American Game presented by Nike. She was selected as the 2011-2012 California Coaches Association Coach of the Year and was selected as a floor coach for the USA Basketball U17-U18 National Team Trials May 2012 and 2013. Last year in 2020, coach Bamford was selected the 2020 Jersey Mikes Naismith Coach of the Year, Pat Summit Trophy Wilson Sporting Goods/WBCA National High School Coach of the Year, and Maxpreps Coach of the year. Coach Bamford played basketball for the Lady Anteaters of UC Irvine, graduating in 1983 with a BA in Psychology.

Under Coach Bamford’s direction, 48 players have earned All-League and All-CIF honors including six San Diego Section Players of the Year (2003, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, and 2020), Three McDonalds All-American in 2004, 2013 and 2020, fifteen McDonalds All-American nominees (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2017, 2018, 2020), and two USA Olympians.

Prior to her arrival at LJCDS, Coach Bamford served as head coach of San Pasqual High School’s girls' basketball team and led Mira Costa College to two undefeated Pacific Coast titles. Prior to Mira Costa College, Coach Bamford led Palomar College to its first Pacific Coast Conference title in 1994.
