Toby Manzanares

Toby Manzanares teaches Physical Education at Rio Rancho High School (Rio Rancho, NM), and just completed his 37th year as a Head Volleyball Coach, the last 27 years at RRHS.
His teams at Rio Rancho High School have won 11 District 1-5A titles and have finished as the New Mexico Class 5A State Runner-up in 2001, 2004, 2008, and New Mexico Class 6A Runner-up in 2014. Opened in 1997, Coach Manz is the only head volleyball coach in RRHS history.
Coach “Manz” has coached the “Rams” to the New Mexico Class 5A State Championship 6 of his 27 seasons (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, & 2009).
While at St. Pius X High School (Albuquerque, NM), Manzanares led the Sartan’s to a NM Class 3A State runner-up in 1993, and the NM Class 3A State Championship in 1994, posting an undefeated season (21-0).
Coach “Manz” was inducted into the Rio Rancho High School Athletics Hall of Fame in October 2014. He was included in the first class of induction at RRHS. Toby “Manz” was inducted into the New Mexico High School Coaches Association “Hall of Honor” in July 2019.
In addition to coaching the NMHSCA North All Star teams in 1994 & 2004, Coach Manzanares has been named New Mexico Coach of the Year five (5) times in two classifications, and was named the New Mexico High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2005, and the Albuquerque-Metro Volleyball Coaches Association “Coach of the Year” in 2006.
A clinic director for the New Mexico High School Coaches Association, Coach Manz has conducted many clinics for coaches in New Mexico and surrounding states over the years. He has served as President of the Albuquerque-Metro VB Coaches association for 19 years.
Toby received the AVCA “Victory Club” Award reaching 500 victories as a head coach in 2022, as well as the AVCA High School Girls Region 8 COY award. The award was accepted in December at the AVCA Annual Convention in Omaha, NE.
Toby’s career has also included numerous awards and recognitions. Most recently, Toby was a National COY Finalist for the National High School Athletic Coaches Association, and attended the NHSACA National Convention in Lincoln, NE. He was named the New Mexico High School Coaches Association COY in 2023.
