Zach Tobias
Co-Director

A lifetime lover of the game, Zach Tobias has been playing tennis since the age of 5, playing tournaments and achieving sectional rankings from age 10 all the way through high school. A Prince George’s County native, Zach played his high school tennis at St. Anselm’s in NE DC, finishing as a three-time conference champion and All Met Honorable Mention. After high school, he first attended Ursinus College, where he excelled as a freshman. Transferring to Temple University prior to his sophomore year, he was named team Captain before graduating with an English degree.
After graduation, Zach was given the opportunity to give back to his home tennis group, the Prince George’s Tennis & Education Foundation (PGTEF), mentoring young athletes pursuing collegiate dreams and beyond. Coach Zach quickly fell in love with coaching and teaching, managing PGTEF’s Junior Outreach Program, which has introduced thousands of Prince George’s County youth to tennis through partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools. In addition to outreach, he ran several after school programs, focusing on underserved communities. Eventually, Zach worked his way up to Director of Programs of PGTEF, creating on court curricula for the high-performance juniors as well as academic and enrichment curricula; founding and facilitating SAT prep classes, tutoring and enrichment programs including Public Speech, writing and STEM.
In addition to teaching, Coach Zach is passionate about coaching education, through the USTA, participating in the Player Development Mentor Program, teaching the 10 and under Net Generation curricula to fellow coaches, coaching with Excellence Teams and graduating from the High Performance Coaching Program. Additionally, Zach has assisted in numerous sectional training camps, clinics, and workshops.
After leaving PGTEF in 2020, Zach joined the Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission, as Assistant Facility Manager for Cosca Tennis Bubble. In that capacity, Zach managed facility operations, including coaching and customer service staffing, managing adult and junior programming, and budget. In 2022, Zach was promoted to Facility Manager of the Cosca and Watkins Tennis Bubbles, before leaving to pursue coaching at Howard.
“As a DMV native, the significance of working for Howard University is not lost on me. I’m excited for the opportunity to contribute to this historical university and community. In the words of my idol Arthur Ashe, ‘From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however makes a life’ It is truly my honor to give all of my efforts and experience to help these young people be the best they can be, on and off court.”
Zach lives in Maryland with his lovely wife, Jazmine, and their four children.
