Zane Wright

Assistant Women's Golf Coach at Arkansas State University

Zane Wright - Assistant Women's Golf Coach at Arkansas State University

Zane Wright is the assistant women’s golf coach at Arkansas State University and serves as a lead coach for Next Athletes’ Nike Golf Camps.

Arkansas State women’s golf head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw announced on May 5, 2023, that Zane Wright had joined the Red Wolves program as assistant coach. Wright comes to Arkansas State after five seasons as head coach of both the men’s and women’s golf programs at Williams Baptist University.

Since his arrival, he has contributed to the continued success of the Red Wolves under head coach M.J. Desbiens Shaw. During the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons, the team set multiple program records, including a school-record season stroke average of 294.42 in 2023–24 and the lowest 36-hole team total in program history with a 564 (-10) at the 2024–25 Maverick Classic. The Red Wolves also participated in the postseason for the first time in program history at the National Golf Invitational. During his tenure at WBU, Wright was named the 2022 American Midwest Conference (NAIA) Coach of the Year after leading the men’s team to their first conference title and the program’s first individual medalist honor in the 2021–22 season. That season, the men’s program also made its first appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, placing 26th, and three players earned All-Conference recognition while the team won two events. In the 2022–23 season, the men’s team won two events and produced the individual medalist in three tournaments. Wright also led the WBU women’s program, guiding the team to its first individual medalist in program history. In the 2022–23 season, the Lady Eagles won two tournaments and WBU was home to the AMC Newcomer of the Year. Across his tenure, three women’s players earned All-Conference honors following the 2021–22 season, and the 2018–19 squad earned the NAIA Scholar Team Award.

Wright earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Crowley’s Ridge College in 2018. He is engaged to Kayla Gaskins, and has two children, Maverick and Amelia.
