US Sports Camps Releases 2016 McCracken Basketball Camp Schedule
McCracken Basketball Camps begins its 54th year offering basketball camps in the Midwest, including a brand new site in Whitmore Lake, Michigan! Founded in 1963 by Indiana University’s Hall-of-Fame coach, Branch McCracken, McCracken Basketball Camps has instructed over 125,000 youth athletes from around the globe.
“Parents who call us always ask why they should send their son or daughter to our camp,” noted camp director, Todd German. “It’s no secret. Our philosophy is that we believe in individualized instruction, providing tools that campers can utilize both on and off the court. The players are the center of our program and always will be.”
One thing McCracken Basketball Camps stresses is the importance of individual improvement, developed through detailed instruction and innovative drills that give campers the knowledge, ability, and confidence they need to take their game to the next level. German explains, “In competition, players tend to shy away from their weaknesses—left hand, outside shooting, etc.—or parts of their game where they are simply not confident, as it might lead to a turnover or missed shot. It has become a common trend across all levels of basketball that too many players don’t know or won’t work on these fundamental skills necessary to become a complete team player. We spend most of the camp day working on mastering these individual skills and blend those in a team environment.”
The staff’s passion and drive to help every camper succeed has led McCracken Basketball Camps to become one of the top camp programs in the Midwest, with various sites in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. “We have directed camps at schools such as Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana, Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan, and Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan for nearly 40 years. At the same time, we’ve expanded into new areas including Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, and Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana.” stated Brent Koonce, VP of Basketball Operations for U.S. Sports Camps. “In a short period of time, these have become some of our most popular locations. Our newest addition is a co-ed basketball camp at Whitmore Lake High School in Whitmore Lake, MI. The town holds a strong basketball history and we’re looking forward to our first camp there this summer.”
