Nike Tennis Camps, a division of US Sports Camps, the official operators of Nike Sports Camps, has announced a new training program for tennis. The tennis camp in Amherst, MA will host the first ever “Tournament Challenge” program.

This program will fit into sessions of Nike Tennis Tournament Training Camp at Amherst College for the weeks of June 23-July 5 and July 7-19. This new program will be a 2-week session that will train tennis players on the east coast to prepare for an official USTA tournament in between the two sessions of camp. The dates of the tournament held at Amherst College will be June 29-30 and July 13-14.

Campers will be trained and fully prepared for the event during the first week of Tournament Challenge. This includes proper nutritional guidelines, proper warm-up and stretch techniques and a sport psychologist session to immediately enhance mental toughness for match play.

During the tournament, campers will focus on proper warm-up and stretch techniques for pre-and-post match. Coaches will assess the matches and chart the things that the camper struggled with during match play. Campers will receive special Tournament Challenge shirts to wear during the tournament and be treated to BBQ lunch.

The second week of the Tournament Challenge program will be solely based on working on what was charted by the coaches during the tournament.

Nike Tennis Camp Director, Mike Gardner is buzzing about this new session for 2019, “I am really excited about the addition of this new dimension to our Tournament Training Program. Tournament Challenge will truly be the highlight of your summer training.”

The 2-week session will be structured as follows:

  • Camper attends first week of Tournament Challenge to prepare for the tournament
  • The tournament will be on that Saturday and Sunday (6/29-6/30 or 7/13-7/14)
  • After the tournament, the second week of Tournament Challenge is devoted to improving on what weak points get charted during match-play

This U14 and U16 USTA event is open to any and all entrants at the entry level of 7. The campers will get the opportunity to interact with other tournament players in the area as well as showcase their skills that were learned at Nike Tennis Camp.
