Paul Scarpa's Furman Tennis Camp Celebrates It's 42nd Year!
Come join the fun this summer with Nike Tennis Camps at Paul Scarpa's 42nd Annual Tennis Camp at Furman University!
Paul Scarpa, who is recognized for his ability to develop players, will be camp director for the 42nd straight year! After coaching three years at Florida State and the U.S. Naval Academy, Coach Scarpa came to Furman, where he is now in his 45th year. A recipient of the Southern Sportsmanship Award, Scarpa is regarded as one of the most successful teaching and playing pros in the south. Furman men’s tennis has grown to its dominance under the hard work and dedication of head coach Paul Scarpa, the winningest NCAA Division I head tennis coach in America (847 wins) and a member of both the South Carolina Tennis and Furman Halls-of-Fame.
Paul Scarpa's Tennis Camp has drawn some of the region and nation’s best young talent over the years. This includes former camper Nancy Yeargin-Furman, who was inducted into the Southern Tennis Hall of Fame in 2003 with Scarpa as her presenter. Yeargin-Furman and former camper Wendy White are both top 30 USWTA players.
Paul Scarpa's Furman Nike Tennis Camp is offering five weeks of Overnight Only camp and two weeks of Day Only camp for kids ages 9-17 of all abilities. This unique program is designed to reach each camper’s specific needs for development which includes:
- PERSONAL INSTRUCTION – 5:1 Student to Teacher ratio – Emphasizing stroke production
- DRILLS – Emphasizing consistency, placement, accuracy
- CONDITIONING – Emphasizing quickness, strength, endurance
- PLAY – Emphasizing strategy, faults, court awareness
- GROUP SESSIONS – Emphasizing positive attitudes, good sportsmanship, and solutions
