    Bryan Chung

    Director

Bryan began playing pickleball 10 years ago in 2015 in his hometown of Glenview, IL, and has been teaching for 8 years. His journey from a player to a top competitive competitor, coach, tournament director, camp director, video creator, and pickleball sportswear designer was a natural progression following his training to become a pro player in Illinois, California, and Hawaii.

    Bryan Chung

    Director

During his travels with the sole intention of turning pro, Bryan immersed himself in the evolving pickleball scene, and opportunities began to present themselves. As he successfully competed and coached at a high level, he dedicated much of his time and energy to filming and documenting the growth of the sport. His passion for pickleball and his camera has allowed him to become a unique and valuable asset to every community he's been a part of.

Though his journey hasn’t always been smooth, Bryan’s dedication to both his own development and the growth of the sport has been unwavering. The wisdom he’s gained from years of playing, training, coaching, and directing is now more evident than ever.

Bryan’s background as a standout skateboarder and wrestler, coupled with his diverse athletic experiences, has shaped him into a highly skilled, intelligent, and versatile pickleball player. His ability to communicate clearly and effectively, along with his deep understanding of strategy and technique, makes him a coach who will undoubtedly have a lasting impact and provide valuable tools to enhance your pickleball journey.

    More Highlights:
    • 10 years of pickleball everyday had eventually opened the doors to directing tournaments, running private leagues and clinics, and even start his own startup pickleball company (SUBLIME PICKLEBALL) that focuses on coaching, drills & skills classes, creative and instructional video production, tournaments and even a pickleball clothing line.
    • Sublime Pickleball is the growing pickleball brand originating from a humble and difficult beginning. Understanding and living through the blessings that are generated through pickleball is one way he relates with his students, progressing with many of them on a personal and profession level. It’s no secret that pickleball can be effective therapy in a variety of ways. Sublime Pickleball does its best to promote this notion even through its videos and clothing line; being an open book about life’s struggles and believing in Pickleball as a true healing gift from God is something his students can also connect
    • With over 5000 videos made over 10 years, Bryan has been documenting the historic relevance of this sport along with the rapid progression of its players, culture, professional leagues, and venues where the sport is being played. This experience leads to a wealth of pickleball knowledge which he is more than happy to consult and share with others.
    • Since starting pickleball Bryan has lived in Hawaii, Southern California, and of course his hometown of Glenview. In those years, he has spent countless training himself, with the goal of going pro. It was his fearless trust in God and Pickleball that kept him at it - trying to stay motivated and relevant in an ever growing sport by being a greay player, inventing innovative shots and strategy, while tying it all together with unique videos that show the world what modern day pickleball is all about.
    • Bryan currently plays and competes at the 4.5/5.0 level and will be working hard to become a standout Senior Pro within a couple years. He’s a 2023 U.S. Open Champion with a handful of championships and medals dating back to 2016. Most of his time is spent teaching and making pickleball videos these days in his hometown of Glenview (and surrounding suburbs) which is on fire for pickleball!
    • Finally, what’s important to Bryan is that his students progress in a multitude of areas: 1) Consistency and execution of skilled shots. 2) Understanding the “why” behind everything we do in Pickleball. 3)Mental Aptitude- learning to play relaxed and with confidence does not come easy for most. It takes mental perspective or awareness and practice controlling the mind.
    • More than anything he always stresses the most important factor of all is…to have FUN playing this game. This is also part of the mental game. Not taking it too seriously where you may set yourself up for disappointment and burnout. **Caring about the students’ experiences like they were your own may be one of Bryan’s best attributes to him being a great coach.

(No rating or DUPR rating 1.0 - 2.5)

  • Intermediate: Players at this level understand the rules and strategy of pickleball and can sustain rallies using a mix of shots.
