The kick-off of the 2016 season marks Barroso's 12th season at the helm of the men's program. He previously served as the head coach on the women's side for eight seasons, leading them to an NEC title and a berth in the NCAA tournament.
Barroso made an immediate impact on the SHU men's team in 2005, engineering the second biggest single-season turnaround in a conference history, leading the Pioneers to the playoffs for the first time ever in Division I. Barroso followed that up with another postseason appearance in 2007.
Portugal -native Barroso began his career helping lay the foundation of the women's soccer program at Sacred Heart serving as head coach from 1992-94. He amassed a record of 27-28-2 in those three years on sideline, receiving the regional Coach-of-the-Year award in 1994-95.
At the University of Bridgeport, Barroso was named the New England Collegiate Conference Coach-of-the-Year in 1997. He was 28-31-4 while coaching the women for four years. He also served as the head men's soccer coach for the Purple Knights from 1997-99.
Originally from Portugal, Barroso played at Southern Connecticut State University, where he was a member of that school's Division II National Championship squad in 1990 and is eighth on the Owls all-time scoring list with 99 points (41 goals, 58 assists). His 41 goals are sixth on that all-time list. He was chosen as one of the top-25 players in the country after his senior season at SCSU and picked to play in the Senior Bowl.
Coach Barroso has played professionally both in Europe and the United States. He played for a First Division club in Portugal competing in the prestigious UEFA Cup and for both the Connecticut Wolves and the Boston Storm in the A-League of the USISL. Barroso was also a member of the United States National Team in 1990-'91.

She loved camp!
June 29, 2018: Making new friends and getting positive feedback from the coaches was really rewarding for my daughter. She really improved her footwork.

I had a really good time.
June 29, 2018: I learned to look up when dribble and see where my teammates are and send people on better runs down the field to score. The games after dinner, it was really good that we got a long break after lunch to rest because of how early we have to wake up, that helped a lot of people. I really enjoyed the small sided games as well, all the counselors were very nice and helpful. I had a really good time.

I'm SO Grateful!
After attending this camp, I can truly say that I have learned a lot of new things. Being able to work with the Sacred Heart keeper helped me learn a lot of new skills. Not only did this camp help me get back into soccer season, but it also gave me an idea of what college sports would be like. It was a great environment to be in and all the coaches were great! I'm so grateful for all the help everyone gave in order to make this possible for me!

Pushed to the next level
I absolutely loved this camp! I made so many new friends and got so much better. Playing with other girls that were better than me pushed me to move up to their level of play. I would definitely recommend this camp.

Loved every minute!
If your child is interested in soccer /goalkeeper training this is a great camp I liked the coed and the challenge was great for my 13 year old daughter. The older campers took her under their wing and helped her with her training. She loved every minute of the camp but said it was too short!
— Tammy S., Parent 2015

Well rounded camp
They allowed a lot of interaction between counselors/coaches and players beyond the playing field. Campers learn quite a lot about soccer and life.

Nike soccer camp is awesome! I met new friends and improved my shooting skills in less than a week. After 3 sessions a day, we got to relax in our dorms or play table tennis with friends. The food is great here too.

Showed her how to connect with college coaches
This was my daughter's first year at the camp and really enjoyed it. The coaches pushed her and she felt challenged. She said that it was hard but it was totally worth it and she can't wait to return next year. I also loved that they gave her recommendations on how to connect with college coaches if she wanted to pursue soccer in college.
— Clarissa R., Parent 2009
Very happy overall
My daughter signed up for day camp and by the middle of the first day called and asked if she could do the overnight, I called the Coach and 20 minutes later I was bringing my daughter her necessities for the week. She had a lot of fun, learned a lot and made some new friends. She was very happy with the overall program, coaches and campers.
— Jan T., Parent 2016
Learned a lot
I noticed a big improvement with my daughter's skill when I watched her the last day at camp. She felt she learned so much and had a great time at camp.
— John W., Parent 2016
The amount of time in dorm rooms. I found that I was stuck in my room without wifi and really bored. Also, they should make more accessible wifi in Merton Hall
— Demi H. Camper, 2016
Better player evaluation
More individual attention and identification of where the camper did improve and where they need to improve.
— Lexi M., Camper 2016
