    Matt Tantalo

    Head Men's Soccer Coach at Nazareth University

    Matt Tantalo, a collegiate coach for more than two decades, is back for his eighth season with the Golden Flyers in 2023. During his tenure, he has spearheaded a dramatic program renaissance that has culminated in Empire 8 Conference titles in 2019 and 2021. Coach Tantalo is excited to lead this Nike Soccer Camp this summer!

    The Golden Flyers have improved steadily since Tantalo's arrival -- from six wins in 2016 to records of 14-3-3 in 2019 and 13-2-3 in 2021. By winning the conference championships in those seasons, Nazareth gained its third and fourth NCAA Tournament berths. In addition, Tantalo has been recognized three times in the last five seasons with the E8 Coach of the Year Award that is named for his mentor Doug May, who coached at Nazareth from 1996 through 2003. Tantalo played for May at RIT.

    Tantalo is a member of the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the National Soccer Coaches Association of America) and holder of an NSCAA National Diploma, USSF National “B” License, and a Master’s Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University in Irvine, Calif.

    Along with collegiate coaching Tantalo has coached at the premier club level, Olympic Development Program and has extensive experience running camps and clinics throughout the northeast.

    In addition, Tantalo has spent four years coaching in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL). In 2016 he led the first-year Rochester River DogZ (now Lancers) of the NPSL as head coach. In 2017 and 2018 he led Syracuse FC, serving as head coach and general manager.

    Diana Groth

    Women's Soccer Assistant Coach

    Diana Groth, who has international experience as both a player and coach, joined the women's soccer staff as a part-time assistant coach for the 2021 season. She was elevated to a full-time assistant coach to start the 2023 season. She has helped the program to back-to-back conference titles, including in 2022 when the Golden Flyers went 8-5-7.

    Women's Soccer Assistant Coach

    A native of Berlin, Germany, Groth played professionally for five years there and later coached youth teams for seven years before moving to the United States. She has coached at numerous camps and clinics in the Rochester area and currently is coaching in the Olympic Development Program.

    She has UEFA-B and USSF-B coaching licenses. She resides in Greece, N.Y

Nike Soccer Camps provide a fun and challenging environment where players are grouped by age and ability to maximize development. Under the guidance of experienced coaches, campers sharpen their technical skills through focused training, small-sided games, and dynamic drills—building confidence and a passion for the game along the way.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

  • Instruction: Training from the Nazareth University coaching staff

  • Day campers: Lunch is not provided. Please bring a packed lunch.

  • Supervision: Staff members are strategically placed throughout the camp to provide optimal supervision and participate in all activities

  • Camp T-shirt: All campers receive a Nike Soccer Camps t-shirt

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT, & FACILITY

  • Ratio: Low camper to coach ratio

  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience

  • Equipment Needed: All campers must bring soccer cleats, shin guards, athletic shoes, and a water bottle.

  • Facility: Golden Flyer Stadium - Nazareth University

  • Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital

CHECKLIST OF THINGS TO BRING

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment, and personal items. US Sports Camps is NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

  • Athletic clothing
  • Soccer Cleats (no metal studs)
  • Shin guards

  • Packed lunch and snacks
  • Small gym bag/backpack

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

8:30 - 9:00 AM Drop-off / Check-in

9:00 AM Players out to center field

9:05 – 9:15 AM Warm-up and ball work

9:15 – 10:30 AM Skills stations

10:30 – 11:00 AM Snack time, socialization, and break

11:00 – 12:00 PM Game play stations

12:00 – 12:45 PM Half-Day camp ends / lunch for full day campers

12:45 – 1:30 PM Warm-up and ball work

1:30 – 2:45 PM Game play: small-side and large space

2:45 – 3:00 PM Cool-down and wrap-up
