Camp Director Christen Hardee
Menlo College Director of Athletics Keith Spataro has announced Christen Hardee as the ninth Head Softball Coach in Menlo College history. Hardee comes to the Oaks with a plethora of experience as a coach, educator and athlete.View Christen's Bio ⟩
Most recently, she has served as an assistant coach at San Jose State since 2009. In that role, Hardee has been involved in all elements of coaching, fundraising, scheduling, travel planning, community service and was a specialty instructor for the team's catchers.
"We are extremely fortunate to have Christen as our new Head Softball Coach," said Spataro. "Her core values are very much aligned with our department and her experiences and skill set makes her a great fit for this position. We're excited to have her as the newest member of the Menlo family."
While at San Jose State, Hardee helped the team to a WAC championship in 2013 – its first in program history – and was a part of its 137-88 record during a four year span. She was twice named the SJSU Assistant Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and claimed Academic Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2015.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to grow and excel in a family oriented, collaborative atmosphere with a strong focus on the whole student-athlete," said Hardee. "I look forward to getting to know the team and their families and continue their progress to the next level. It's my goal to guide each individual, as well as the team, in reaching their fullest potential on and off the field."
Hardee spent her playing career as an accomplished catcher at Humboldt State where she helped the team to a Division II National Championship in 1999. As a catcher for the Lumberjacks, she received all-region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in 2001 and would be inducted into the Humboldt State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009.
A standout in the classroom as well, Hardee graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2004 with a dual Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science and Geology with a minor in Watershed Management. She was a four-time NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete and a three-time Pac-West Academic All-Conference selection. Hardee continued her education in Dec. 2014 when she earned a Masters in Kinesiology from Texas Women's University with National Fastpitch Coaches College graduating with a 4.0 GPA. Her previous professional and coaching experiences include: four years of teaching at both the high school and junior high level, a pair of seasons as an assistant softball coach at Delta College and College of the Redwoods and serving as an instructor at a number of camps and clinics.
"I'd like to thank Keith Spataro and the hiring committee for the opportunity to take the next step in my coaching career. I appreciate everything Peter Turner and San Jose State University have done to prepare me the past 7 years for this opportunity. I especially want to thank Thad Brown, my dad, Eric and all those who have been great mentors and support all along the way."
