Nike Softball Berkeley Facility

UC Berkeley

The University of California was chartered in 1868 and its flagship campus — envisioned as a "City of Learning" — was established at Berkeley, on San Francisco Bay. Today the world's premier public university and a wellspring of innovation, UC Berkeley occupies a 1,232 acre campus with a sylvan 178-acre central core. From this home its academic community makes key contributions to the economic and social well-being of the Bay Area, California, and the nation.

Levine-Fricke Field

Levine-Fricke Field, home of the 2002 NCAA champions, is the venue for Golden Bear softball on the University of California campus. Nestled at the base of Strawberry Canyon, the field sits high above the Berkeley campus overlooking the San Francisco Bay Area. Built in 1995, Levine-Fricke Field owns a seating capacity of 500, with all of the seats in close proximity to the field. The outfield fences stand 190 feet down the right and left field lines, while it is 220 feet to straight-away center. Cal softball began play in 1972 on Hearst Field in the center of campus. The Bears moved to Strawberry Field, just west of their current location, in the early 1980s and remained there until Levine-Fricke Field was constructed.

    This was an excellent camp!

July 24, 2018: It was a such a privilege to work with real softball coaches and players from UC Berkeley and interacting with them as well as playing on their field! The stations include: Batting cage, tee work, bunting, Pitcher/Catcher, infield drills, outfield drills, and scrimmaging game with an umpire and announcer. Coaches and staff were friendly, and my daughter was invited back to next year.

Amazing atmosphere and experience all around.

July 20, 2018: ALL the coaches - but especially Mandy Santos - were so supportive and encouraging and patient while still managing to instruct and guide not just my daughter but the entire group. Impressed that the Cal Softball Team members working the camp also learned campers' names before the end of the week. (They are at CAL Student Athletes so I guess I shouldn't be surprised). To see the girls play on the actual softball field with a regulation umpire and live announcer introducing them was definitely a highlight for the parents. Even the parents in the stands were so encouraging with their cheers.

    Coaches provided instruction and encouragement

July 4, 2017: My daughter had a GREAT time at the camp. She really liked how not only did the coaches help her to correct things she was doing wrong, they also really encouraged her and praised thnigs she did well. Being at the camp for 4 days really helped her get a good understanding about what is expected from a college athlete. The camp overall was great. I feel if campers were able to stay on campus in the dorms over the 4 days it would give them an even better understaning of what is means to be a student/athelete on the college level.

Thank you for the individual attention!

Great camp, great staff. Seriously did not expect the attention given to the individuals. This camp is not a money grab like people try to make you think. They truly care about improving your game and we will return next year. Thank you!

    Overall, great camp

Great camp overall. Game to end each day was very disappointing. Skill levels for the prospects scrimmage were too wide and we're not challenging. 18 players per team made it where many players only played 2 innings in the field and batted a single time each game. Possibly could have staggered the lunch between little girls and older girls and it would have allowed 30 addition minutes of field time and the little girls could have watched the older girls play some. Max out at teams of 10-12 and have a 3rd older team if needed. For the older girls, scrimmage time is the most fun unless they are sitting 4 innings and batting one time each game. Pace was great until the game at end of the day and then half of the girls were not involved in each inning. Fine for a travel team. Not so great for a camp you are paying to participate in. Teams of 10-12 girls would have doubled the at bats and tripled the playing time.

My daughter had a great time while learning from Cal players

This was the first time we have ever attended a camp. My daughter had a fantastic time with interacting with the Cal players and meeting other girls who attended the camp. She learned a lot of new skills and drills that will enhance her skills. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone! I would really like to see an overnight camp in this area!
