  Carrie Webber, the 2016 Pacific West Conference Coach of the Year, is in her 15th season as the head coach of Azusa Pacific, which made its first NCAA Division II postseason appearance in 2016 in the program’s second season of active Division II membership, adding to three NAIA national tournament appearances prior to the program’s transition to NCAA Division II.

  Webber has produced three of Azusa Pacific’s eight 40-win seasons all-time, including a 40-12 campaign in 2016 which saw the Cougars capture their first PacWest championship and host an NCAA Division II West Regional tournaments. She was the second head coach in Azusa Pacific softball history to reach 200 career wins, which she achieved in her seventh season (2014), and she has led the Cougars to national tournament appearances in three different classifications. Before advancing to the 2016 NCAA playoff appearance, Webber took the Cougars into the postseason in the final two years of the program’s NAIA membership (2011-12), along with a berth in the 2014 National Christian College Athletic Association tournament.In 2021, Webber led the Cougars to an 18-18 record while playing exclusively against the top two seeded teams in the NCAA regional during conference play. The team posted a record of 11-1 in non-conference games and in PacWest action won five games against the national runner-up (Biola).
  
  In 2016, Azusa Pacific won 22 of its final 25 regular-season games including its final 11 in a row, to win its first PacWest title going away, putting the exclamation point on the championship with a doubleheader sweep at home against California Baptist. The Cougars ran their winning streak to 13 with NCAA tournament victories over UC San Diego and Central Washington before CWU came back through the loser’s bracket to edge Azusa Pacific twice and advance to the regional finals. Nicki Sprague collected her third consecutive PacWest Player of the Year award and earned NFCA All-American second team honors. Webber was named PacWest Coach of the Year, her first conference coach of the year award, and nine Cougars were selected for all-conference honors.
  
  In 2015, Webber led the Cougars to a 29-26 campaign in its first season of active NCAA Division II membership. Under her guidance, Azusa Pacific produced the first player in PacWest history to collect consecutive conference player of the year honors as Nicki Sprague followed a breakout freshman season in 2014 with another standout campaign in 2015.
  
  In 2014, while completing its final provisional season of Division II membership, Azusa Pacific posted a 40-19 record for its second 40-win season in three years, and the Cougars went 22-10 in PacWest play to finish third in the conference standings in just its second year of PacWest affiliation. The Cougars joined the PacWest in 2013, adjusting to the new level of competition with a 23-24 overall record which included a 12-18 conference mark.
  
  Webber led Azusa Pacific to NAIA national tournament appearances in 2011 and 2012, returning the program to the national tournament for the first time since 2000 and making the program’s first back-to-back appearances since 1996-97. With a 33-23 record in 2011, the Cougars posted the program’s highest single-season win total since 2003 while making its first NAIA Tournament appearance in over a decade. Once there, the Cougars opened the tournament with a 9-7 win over St. Thomas (Fla.), a game that put Azusa Pacific into the national tournament record books with the most doubles (8) in a game. A year later in 2012, the Cougars posted the program's sixth 40-win season and first since 2003, going 42-11 with another NAIA national tournament appearance.
  
  In 2010, which was her third year as head coach, Webber led a young Cougar roster that featured 10 freshmen to a second consecutive 27-22 record. The successful campaign followed a 2009 season in which she led the program to its first winning record since 2006, going 27-22 with a GSAC Tournament semifinal appearance.
  
  In her first season at Azusa Pacific in 2008, Webber rebuilt a squad that lost its entire outfield and middle infield from the season before, and she fashioned a 21-26 team that tied for third in the GSAC, missing the conference tournament by just one game in the final GSAC standings.
  
  Prior to her arrival at Azusa Pacific, Webber served seven years as the head and assistant coach on the international, junior college, and travel ball levels. She spent five seasons (2003-07) as the head coach at Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College, where she fashioned an overall record of 116-93 (.553). She guided the Bear Cubs to four straight 20-win campaigns, which included a 29-10 record in 2004 when Santa Rosa won the Bay Valley West League title.
  
  Prior to her tenure at Santa Rosa, Webber spent a season as an assistant coach at Butte Community College in Oroville, Calif., and another season as an assistant at Chico (Calif.) Union High School.
  
  Webber has always viewed the game of softball as an outreach for a greater movement in society. For six years, she coached softball with Competitive Edge International (CEI), an interdenominational Christian sports ministry which works primarily in the 10/40 window. In addition to her involvement with CEI, Webber spent three summers as a counselor for Kids Across America, an inner-city youth Christian sports camp.
  
  A native of Sonora, Calif., Webber was a four-year letterman at NCAA Division II Chico State University. As the Wildcats’ shortstop, she started all 201 games she played during her four-year career, batting .262 with two home runs. As a 2000 senior, she led the team with 11 doubles. She still ranks among Chico State’s all-time top ten in hits (168), doubles (28), RBIs (67), walks (51) and stolen bases (20).
  
  Webber was a two-sport standout at Sonora High School, earning four varsity letters each in softball and basketball, before graduating in 1995.
  
  Webber graduated from Chico State in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. She earned her master’s in physical education from Chico State in 2002. She also serves as a full-time assistant professor in Azusa Pacific’s exercise and sport science department. She was a faculty member at Santa Rosa Junior College for five years and spent a semester on staff at Oroville (Calif.) Union High School.
