SKILL LEVELS & GROUP PLACEMENT

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Participants are then sorted by ability first, then age per the Camp Director's discretion - adjustments are made as needed during camp.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Camp Directors at Nike Tennis Camps will use to organize and group camp participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your experience:

  • Beginner: Players who are new to the game and have little to no formal instruction. They are focused on learning the fundamentals and the basic rules of tennis. Typically play for recreation and have very little or no match-play experience. USTA rating of 2.0 or lower, or no rating.

  • Intermediate: Players who can serve and maintain rallies with some consistency. They are fairly reliable with medium-paced shots but may struggle with certain strokes and lack precision in directional control and power. Generally play recreationally at their local club. USTA rating of 3.0.

  • Advanced: Players with dependable strokes and strong directional control. They display an all-around competitive spirit, improved court coverage, and are developing strategies for both singles and doubles play. These players compete regularly at local clubs or travel to participate in USTA tournaments. USTA rating of 3.5 and above.

  • loved the coaching, feedback, and encouragement

August 18, 2016: I wish there were more opportunities for singles matches. I understand why that's difficult, though, due to court space. I loved the coaching, feedback, and encouragement from all the coaches! Everyone was super helpful and nice. It was fun to work and play with all of them. I also really appreciated the adherence to the schedule each day. The drills and events were well-organized and started on time. I loved how efficiently the whole weekend was planned and run!

August 26, 2016: The staff and other campers were very friendly and encouraging. This camp experience was truly inspiring. I had a great time, will continue to practice and play. I plan on attending a camp in the future and I will recommend the camp to my friends.

7/29/2015 - Coaching staff (Ross, Alex, Steven, Ricky) was excellent! Appreciate their hard work, passion for teaching and constructive feedback. They were committed to us improving our skills and creating a fun and supportive environment. Can't wait to return next year! Would also love a camp in the Seattle area.

7/29/2015 - Love the dinner the first night. It was a good way to meet and get to know other campers. Need to offer this program in WA!

  • very grateful and highly inspired!

7/29/2015 - Ross and the coaching team were outstanding! There were so many great takeaways and I still craved more. Even when I felt as though my particular group did not have the same intensity as I did, which I shared that concern with Ricky. Ross and staff went into immediate action and accommodated my intensity by placing me in a situation where I felt that I was able to utilize my newly learned skills with higher level opponents/participants. The timeliness of their response and the way they accomplished this was truly a class act and a declaration of their amazing attention to detail of our experience! I'm very grateful and highly inspired to advance my tennis journey. I'm a full supporter/advocate of any clinic/camp that Ross is involved in. I'm also very interested in promoting/helping Nike to expand/create an adult camp in the Seattle area…assuming Ross Duncan is the director. Ricky, Steven, Alex and Ross’ passion for tennis exuded in their individual coaching style, which those unique intricacies created a harmonious collaboration that I felt yielded personal accomplishment and a rejuvenated enthusiasm of my excitement of tennis!

  • camp was extremely well organized

7/29/2015 - I thought the camp was extremely well organized and free flowing; the coaches were more than tennis-talented, they were personable which made the experience enjoyable. I'm talking about this camp to my tennis buds hoping to increase attendance from Corvallis in 2016. Congratulations on a job well done!

  • Improved my game

August 09, 2017: Smaller camp size this year made a big difference. I brought back several very specific corrections to each facet of my game. I waited to see how I would be able to apply the coaching feedback at my home club and I think it is already improving my game. I hope I can go next year and I hope the numbers are small!
