The Three Most Important Dribbles for Elite Ball handling

Dribbling Tips by Nike Basketball Camp Director TJ Jones
I. Occupy Dribble:
A. This dribble is used mainly when the dribbler is not advancing toward the basket.
B. The dribbler should always stay low and keep his/her hand on the top of the ball.
C. The dribbler should keep fingers spread apart for more control of the ball.
II. Separation Dribble: (Cross-over, Between the Legs, Behind the Back and Spin dribble)
A. This dribble is used to advance pass the defender
B. The Dribbler should make this move quick and explosive
C. The dribbler should get lower when making this move
III. Advance Dribble:
A. This dribble is done immediately after the separation dribble.
B. The dribbler should keep the ball low and below the waist
C. The dribbler should push the ball forward and in front of the foot.
Note: In order for these dribbles to be effective, the dribble must stay low and keep the ball below his/her waist at all times. Also, the changing of speed is very important and key.
