Running Tip on Athlete Development from the Staff of Central Wisconsin Running Camp
The best runners in the world are well rounded athletes. The latest advances in endurance training show the importance of developing athletes, not distance runners. This idea is fully encompassing. Runners need to focus on nutrition, sleep, strength, agility, and speed development, along with the traditional aerobic work, and interval training.
Nutrition
What’s on your plate? Each meal should include a protein, a carb and a healthy fat. Drinking lots of water is also very important.
Sleep
Most teens need about 8-10 hours of sleep each night to function best. Athletes in training may need more to help speed up training recovery.
Agility
Agility helps runners’ bodies learn how to maintain correct body placement by improving flexibility, balance and control.
Join the staff at the Central Wisconsin Cross Country Camp from July 21-25 to learn more about healthy, sustainable training principles that will stick with young athletes for the rest of their lives, while also giving them the knowledge that will help drop their performance times.
