Tennis Tip: How to Improve Your Touch Shots
Nike Tennis Camps sits down with Jonathan Sarosiek, Director of Tennis at the Wintergreen Resort to discuss shot selection and how to improve your "touch shots."
"Shot selection is a very important part of tennis," he explains. "When up at the net in a volleying position only try to attack on a ball that you can make contact with above the net. If you are hitting a volley below the level of the net try to hit a soft controlled volley so as not to pop the ball up to your opponents."
Jonathan Sarosiek has been a full-time member of the Wintergreen tennis staff for the past eight years, overseeing a facility singled out as one of the nation’s top 50 tennis resorts in the country by both Tennis magazine and Tennis Resorts Online. Having worked with both juniors and adults, he knows how "touch shots" can be very effective when used at the right time. However, these shots are not always so easy to hit.
"The key to hitting a drop volley or touch shot is the amount of tension applied to the grip by the hitting hand," he explains. "When trying to hit a drop volley or drop shot, soften up your grip on the racquet so that you are able to feel the ball on the strings as opposed to having a very firm grip on the handle of the racquet."
For more great tips, come join Jonathan and his very talented staff for the Nike Tennis Camp at the Wintergreen Resort this summer. You will hit a ton of balls, improve your game, work hard, meet new friends, laugh and immerse yourself in tennis all within one of the most gorgeous settings in the country.
