Tennis Tip: How to Prepare for Tennis Camp

Maximize your time at Nike Tennis Camp by showing up prepared! Check out our interview with Marcelo Ferreira and Per Nilsson, Head Tennis Coaches at Pepperdine University in Malibu and learn the best ways to get junior tennis players ready before arriving at camp.

  1. How many balls per day should campers be hitting before camp?
    Campers should look to hit over 2 hours of tennis at least 2-3 times a week minimum, so they are more prepared and comfortable to play 5-6 hours of tennis each day of camp with periodic breaks.
  2. How often should campers be playing matches before camp?
    It is very important to play some competitive match-play before camp, as throughout camp there will be plenty of opportunities to grow through competitive situations & be prepared for the weekly tournament on Friday.
  3. Which drills do you recommend before camp?
    Campers should do a combination of dead ball, live ball rallying, point play drills and practice sets to be prepared for all aspects of the camp's schedule and drill scenarios.
  4. What are the best ways to condition before camp?
    We highly recommend you spend 15 minutes with a dynamic stretching warm up before practice and always cool down for 15 minutes with a static cool down and stretch afterward.
  5. Why is it important to come to camp prepared to play?
    The most important reason to prepare well is so you can really enjoy your time here. The Pepperdine camp is such a wonderful environment for developing your game, making friends and becoming a greater person through the experience of camp. By playing prior to camp, you are physically and mentally more prepared to play to your potential, avoid injury and maximize having a great time!
