Sacred Heart University Director of Athletics Judy Ann Riccio announced the hiring of Adam Niemczynowicz as the next head coach of the men’s volleyball program. He comes to the Pioneers after a five-year stint at Bard College.

While at Bard, Niemczynowicz guided the Raptors in the United Volleyball Conference, which is annually one of the most difficult NCAA Division III conferences in the country. After the 2021 season was canceled, Niemczynowicz led Bard to its most wins since the 2016 campaign. In addition to his coaching duties at Bard, he served as an assistant athletic director.

“I would like to express my gratitude to Judy Ann Riccio, Charlie Dowd, the search committee, and the athletic department for this tremendous opportunity,” Niemcynowicz said. “I felt an immediate connection at SHU with the people, culture, beliefs and how everyone is so welcoming. I look forward to working with all the players and staff. I’m excited to continue the legacy of the program and work on building it even stronger.”

A native of Poland, he played NCAA Division I volleyball at Concordia College from 2001-2003, helping the Clippers to three-consecutive Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association playoff appearances and a national ranking that reached as high as No. 13. As a rookie in 2001, he was named to the EIVA All-Tournament Team as Concordia came one win short of an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

“I am excited to welcome Adam to the Pioneer family during this exciting time of transition for our men’s volleyball program,” Riccio said. “I have great confidence in Adam’s ability to take us to the top of the Northeast Conference.”

Niemczynowicz graduated from Concordia in 2004 with a degree in accounting. He has a master’s degree in physical education with a dual degree in volleyball coaching from the Academy of Physical Education in Gdansk, Poland. He continued to play professionally for many years on the beach and indoor volleyball circuits.

We are excited to welcome him and I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Prior to coming back to Sacred Heart, Ward spent the last year in Tennessee where he served as a coach for the Kingsport Volleyball Club. In addition, he was the assistant coach for the West Ridge High School boys’ team.

SCHOLARSHIPS

We cannot offer scholarships due to NCAA regulations. Our affiliation with NCAA coaches and schools puts us in a position where any scholarship money can be seen as an inducement to a future collegiate athlete. This puts our coaches and our host universities in jeopardy of damaging their status with the NCAA and incurring penalties at the hands of their organizing body.

Camps are open to any and all entrants, limited only by number, age, grade level and/or gender.
