In year one leading the Dons, Rob DiToma guided USF to 18 wins and a 14-12 record at home at Benedetti Diamond. This included three wins on opening weekend against Pac-12 opponent Utah as well as a home sweep of Villanova. Additionally, the Dons also tallied a huge road victory over then ranked No. 20 Washington State in Pullman on Mar. 15, 2023. Overall, USF led the West Coast Conference in stolen bases (74) for the third straight season as DiToma continued the trend of utilizing the base paths as a staple of the team's offense. Notably, Harris Williams III led the conference in stolen bases with 22 on the year. Under DiToma’s leadership, Mario DeMera was named All-WCC First Team, Williams III was named to the All-WCC Second Team while right-handed pitcher Gabriel Barrett was named to the All-WCC Freshman Team.

Off the field and in the classroom the Dons excelled in DiToma’s first year. The team had an overall cumulative GPA of 3.6, including five student-athletes sporting 4.0 GPA’s. USF baseball also participated in the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot to provide under privileged families with Thanksgiving meals.

In 2022, DiToma led the Knights to their best record since 2016. Overall, the team finished 16-11 in conference play and fourth in the Northeast Conference standings. Notably, four student-athletes earned All-NEC Honors in 2022: Hunter D'Amato (First Team), George Rosales (First Team), Tom Ruscitti and Joey Kosowsky (Second Team).

Prior to his time at Farleigh Dickinson, DiToma spent six years at Fordham University, where he served as the associate head coach for his last two seasons with the Rams. In 2019, DiToma helped guide Fordham to an Atlantic 10 Championship and back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998. Overall, DiToma's offensive philosophies on the base paths proved to be top notch as the Rams led the nation in stolen bases for two straight seasons. In addition to his role as associate head coach, DiToma was a successful recruiting coordinator for the Rams. DiToma's efforts landed perennial award-winning talent, including 2018 A-10 Rookie of the Year Jake MacKenzie.

Before his time at Fordham, DiToma spent four years at Iona College, serving as the team's hitting instructor and recruiting coordinator. In four seasons with the Gaels, DiToma guided Iona's offense to some of its most productive seasons in the last decade. In 2010, the Gaels posted their highest batting average and slugging percentage while also scoring the most runs in their previous 10 seasons. Notably, four of his hitters from that team received All-MAAC honors, including three first team honorees.

Prior to his four-year stint at Iona, DiToma coached for one season each at both Siena and Temple. DiToma graduated from Mercy College in 2005 and went on to earn a master's degree in physical education from Manhattanville College in 2007, where he helped guide his team to the 2007 Skyline Conference Championship.

DiToma's own playing career included four years at Mercy College as the starting second baseman, where he was elected team captain during his senior year. As a junior, he batted .309 and was named an All-NYCAC selection.

WHAT THEY ARE SAYING ABOUT DITOMA:
"I'm thrilled for Rob and his family as the Dons have hired a tremendous leader for their baseball program. As someone who was fortunate to watch the rebuilding process up close at FDU, Rob will be meticulous in establishing a culture everyone can be proud of. We can't thank Rob enough for his efforts in Burgundy and Blue and look forward to following USF baseball." - Jason Young, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, Farleigh Dickinson University

"The Dons gain is sincerely FDU's loss. Rob did a terrific job of restoring respectability to our baseball program in three short seasons. At the same time, he changed the culture of the team in a much needed and very positive way. We wish Rob and his growing family great success at USF. He will be missed!" - Bradford Hurlbut, Director of Athletics, Farleigh Dickinson University

"This is a great hire for USF! Rob DiToma is a proven recruiter who has recruited all over the country and was instrumental in landing some of our top performers during his time at Fordham. Rob is tremendous at developing talent, building a strong culture, game management and connecting with his players. He is a tireless worker who will not stop until he succeeds." - Kevin Leighton, Head Baseball Coach, Fordham University

Benedetti Diamond

Benedetti Diamond is the baseball field home for the only Division I team in the city of San Francisco. Its name is in honor of Dante Benedetti, the head coach of Dons baseball team from 1962 to 1980. In his time as head coach, he led the program to 373 wins and has since been inducted into the university's hall of fame. The field, originally named Max Ulich Field after a donor who funded the building of the stadium, was then renamed in 1980 to Benedetti Diamond in honor of the 29 years Dante Benedetti served the program. Benedetti passed away in November of 2005, but his legacy lives on in the home of the Dons baseball program for which he played such a pivotal role in laying the foundation.

In 2015 the field underwent a major $6 million renovation to create a new and improved field for the Dons baseball program. The field itself is made of an AstroTurf Diamond Series 3D synthetic turf playing surface and a health- and eco-conscious Greenplay organic infill made of a mixture of sand, ground cork and coconut husks, and other natural fibers that is 100% recyclable
material. Benedetti Diamond is the first NCAA Division I baseball facility to feature the Greenplay organic infill.

As for seating in the stadium, there is a wrap-around deck alongside the baseline for fans to enjoy the view of the ballpark. There are two grass berms at first base netting and the third base netting for people to sit at and watch the game from. The seats in the bleachers around the bases include 150 reserved seat back chairs. Behind home plate there are six tables each with four
chairs available to be reserved for an incredible view of the whole park. In the renovation, the field itself was lowered 18 inches to allow spectators a more enhanced vision of the field from their seats.
