During Schmidt’s time at Akron, the Zips have secured an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to joining the Zips, Schmidt served as head men’s soccer coach at Benedictine University (IL) where he led the Eagles to five consecutive winning seasons and the program’s first two NCAA Tournament victories.

Before Benedictine, Schmidt served two seasons (2014-15) as assistant men’s soccer coach and head recruiting coordinator at Amherst College. During his tenure, Amherst posted an overall record of 32-2-8 (.857) securing back-to-back NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen appearances and the programs first NCAA Tournament National Championship in 2015.

Prior to Amherst, Schmidt served four seasons (2010-13) as assistant men’s soccer coach and head recruiting coordinator at Lake Forest College. The Foresters compiled a 54-20-4 (.718) overall record and won back-to-back conference titles in 2012 and 2013 while earning the programs first NCAA Tournament selection since the 1980 season.

As a player, Schmidt was a midfielder on the varsity squad at Lake Forest College for four seasons (2004-07). He was the recipient of All-Midwest Conference honors for three consecutive seasons and voted team captain his final two seasons. Schmidt started every game his final three seasons and finished his career with 20 goals and 18 assists.

A native of Akron, Schmidt earned a B.A. in Economics from Lake Forest College in 2008 and earned a M.S. in Recreation and Sport Sciences from Ohio University in 2017. He holds a National ‘B’ License from the United States Soccer Federation and a Premier Diploma from the United Soccer Coaches.
