Head Men's Golf Coach, George Washington University

Chuck Scheinost

Chuck Scheinost George Washington

Chuck Scheinost enters his nineth season as head coach of the GW golf program in 2021-22.

The Colonials took top-four finishes at the Atlantic 10 Championship three times since Scheinost's arrival, including third place in 2014 and fourth in 2016 and 2017.

During his tenure, Scheinost helped 2019 graduate Logan Lowe complete a historic career with the Buff and Blue. In the spring of 2017, Lowe won for the first time as a collegian and went on to claim four more titles, including a pair of victories as a junior before being named A-10 Golfer of the Year. In his senior campaign, Lowe shot a 6-under 210 to win the A-10 Championship and earn his automatic berth to NCAA Regionals.

Scheinost landed the top-ranked duo in the A-10 in Vince Palazzolo and Jack Porcelli, who stamped their names in GW record books during their time in the Buff and Blue. Palazzolo and Porcelli helped elevate the program throughout their time in Foggy Bottom, helping lead the squad to three top-three finishes during their senior season, including the school's first tournament win in six years.

In his first season at GW, Scheinost helped mentor Jack Persons to an A-10 All-Conference selection, and the following season Persons repeated to become the first Colonial to repeat that honor. Following in the footsteps of Persons, Logan Lowe then earned a spot on the A-10 All-Conference team in 2016 and 2017 under the tutelage of Scheinost. He was the only freshman to make the team in 2016. In 2017, Lowe won his first collegiate tournament (Bash at the Beach Invitational) and etched his name in the GW record books with both the lowest round in school history (65 at the Marshall Invitational) and low 54-hole score (207 at the Elon Phoenix Invitational). Additionally, Palazzolo matched the lowest round relative to par in school history with a 6-under 66 in the opening round of the 2017 A-10 Championship.

In addition to its performance on the course, GW has achieved at a high level in the classroom and community. The Colonials were recognized as an All-Academic Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America for maintaining a team GPA above 3.0 in 2016-17, while Christian Cichan was named an All-America Scholar. GW also partners with the Salute Military Golf Association, which provides golf programs and experiences for wounded veterans.
