David Harrison

As the Director of Action Sports Academy, David is passionate about helping post-grad athletes achieve their full athletic and academic potential by securing collegiate scholarships and pursuing higher education.

David grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, where he ate, drank, and slept basketball. Cut by his middle school basketball team and only playing one year for his high school, his chances to play collegiate basketball seemed slim. But David had big dreams of playing DI basketball and going pro, so he took matters into his own hands. Never losing sight of his goal, David put together his own film, and started contacting colleges. He never gave up, and turned his childhood passion into a reality.

David began his college basketball career in 1994 at Sullivan Community College in Louisville, KY, where he redshirted his freshman year. In 1995, he transferred to Morehead State University, a DI school. After playing two seasons at Morehead, he began playing for Campbellsville University where he earned First Team NAIA All-American Honors (1999). David led the Campbellsville Tigers by scoring 1,041 points in the two seasons while averaging 29.8 points per game. His most notable college achievement was scoring a career high of 60 points and 25 rebounds in a single game. David later returned to Campbellsville University in 2012 and graduated with a Bachelors of Science (BS) in Organizational Management.

In 1999, David entered in the NBA Draft and began a 13-year professional basketball career where he played in the United States, Europe, Asia, Middle East, and South America. During his career, he played in over 700 games and lived in more than 25 countries. He led the Yakima Sun Kings, (Yakima, WA) to win the 2000 Continental Basketball Association (CBA) Championship. In 2003, while playing for the Rockford Lightning (Rockford, IL), David was named CBA’s Leading Scorer by averaging 28.8 points per game. In 2009, he led Icevic to win the Honduras Basketball League (HBL) Championship where he was named HBL’s Leading Scorer by averaging 34.6 points per game. David received First Team Honors while playing for the Colombia Copa Federation where he averaged 27.2 points per game. He retired from his professional career in 2012.

David’s coaching career started in 2013, were he became the Assistant Coach at Bristol Community College in Falls River, MA. During his tenure at Bristol (2013-2014), his team had the best record in the school’s history. More importantly, 3 out of 7 female players were selected to play in the Regional All-Star Tournament. Following his successful career at Bristol, David became the Graduate Assistant Coach at his first DI school, Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) during the 2014- 2015 season. Under David’s leadership, EKU beat 17th ranked University of Miami while winning 22 games during the season.

David was sought after in 2015 to become the Head Coach for Action Sports Academy. At the rise of his career, 12-out-of-12 post-grad players received a basketball scholarship. He has coached ASA players through several winning seasons. David is dedicated and committed to seeing each player succeed—in sports and in life. His goal for each player at Action Sports Academy is to provide the necessary training and development that encourages players to continue to hold on to and chase after their dreams.
