Ryan Keckley

Ryan Keckley led the Toreros to their third straight WCC Championship in his first year as Head Coach of the Men's tennis team at USD.

USD went undefeated in WCC play and set a school record with 15 shutouts. Additionally, Uros Petronijevic became the first Torero All-American since 2009 and the doubles duo of Filip Vittek and Jordan Angus advanced to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Doubles Championships, the furthest for a Torero tandem since 2002. As a team, the Toreros finished No. 29 in the country and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Championships.

"Ryan Keckley is a rising star in college tennis," said Shaney Fink, Senior Associate Director of Athletics/SWA, at the time of his hire. "His knowledge of the game and proven success, passion for student athlete development and demonstration of the core values of the University of San Diego make him a perfect fit to lead our Torero men's tennis program. We are excited to welcome him to the Torero family."

Keckley spent three seasons as USD's assistant coach to Brett Masi from September 2009 through July, 2012. He replaced Masi, who accepted the head coach position at Texas Tech University. Keckley was named the Southwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year in his final season at Alcala Park after the Toreros finished 18-9 overall, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with a national ranking of No. 26. During his second season with USD the Toreros finished 19-7 overall, won the West Coast Conference Championship, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with a national ranking of No. 29. USD's record during his three year tenure was 49-25 (.662 winning percentage).

The Toreros had a player in each of the last two NCAA singles tournaments during Keckley's tenure as well as a team in the 2011 NCAA doubles event. At the end of Keckley's first season in 2010, the Toreros brought in the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the nation, according to TennisRecruiting.net

"I left San Diego three years ago hoping for the chance to once again coach and mentor at USD, stated Ryan Keckley. "San Diego has always held a strong place in my heart, and I am so grateful to be returning as the head coach. I am thankful to Ky Snyder and the entire search committee for granting me the opportunity to represent this prestigious institution and lead an exceptional group of young men. San Diego has a rich tennis tradition in the WCC and on a national scale, and I am humbled to be associated with such a competitive community of athletics. We expect to achieve success and to work tirelessly to push past the impressive resume that is historically representative of Torero tennis."

Keckley returns to USD after being assistant coach for Princeton University the past three seasons. During his time with the Tigers, Keckley helped Princeton to 48 wins including 18 in the most recent 2015 spring season, the second-most wins in a single campaign in program history. The 2015 campaign also saw Keckley and the Tigers end a 17-year NCAA tournament drought, returning to the draw for the first time since 1998. For his efforts, Keckley was named the ITA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, his second such award in four seasons.

Keckley enjoyed a successful undergraduate career at Notre Dame before moving into the coaching ranks. Keckley was a mainstay in the ITA doubles rankings while at Notre Dame, ending his career with the third-most doubles victories (81) in program history. The Irish advanced to the NCAA tournament in all four of his years there, twice reaching the Round of 16.

Keckley earned three All-Big East Tournament Team doubles honors as well as achieving Big East Academic All-Star status three times. While helping the Irish to three Big East Conference championships, Keckley was ranked as high as No. 7 in the nation in doubles while also reaching No. 115 in singles play. He played in the 2007 NCAA doubles tournament and was also an ITA Midwest Regional doubles champion.

Keckley, a South Bend, Ind., native, was the 2002 Indiana state high school singles champion before moving on to his hometown school.
