Jay Owen

Camp Director

Jay Owen - Camp Director

Jay Owen was named the sixth head coach in program history in August 2013. In 2023, Owen took on additional responsibilities as an assistant director of athletics.

Wittenberg Career

  • NCAC Coach of the Year in 2017.
  • As Wittenberg's head coach, Owen has coached 30 Tigers to All-NCAC honors and 27 players to NCAC Academic Honor Roll awards.
  • Two Tigers (Aaron Blossey & David Strahm) earned First Team All-Region honors under Owen's guidance in 2017.
  • Under Jay Owen's tutelage, one Tiger (Sean Kelleher) earned an invitation to the Division III North-South All-Star Game.

Previous coaching experience

  • Before taking the position at Wittenberg, spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach at Salisbury University.
  • Won five NCAA Division III National Championships as a member of the coaching staff at Salisbury.
  • Involved in all aspects of the Salisbury program, with a primary focus on the defense.
  • Coached 25 All-Americans, and 10 Defensive Player of the Year award winners.
  • Helped the team achieve an NCAA-record 69-game win streak.

Playing Career

  • Played at Salisbury University.
  • Member of two NCAA Division III National Championships teams.
  • Two-time all-conference defensemen. Team captain as a senior.
  • Received conference academic awards following each of his four seasons.
  • Part of a then-NCAA record 47-game win streak

Personal

  • Holds a pair of bachelor's degrees from Salisbury in communications and history.
  • Resides in Springfield with his wife Gwen and their three children Andrew, Molly, and Landon.
