Cal Volleyball Camps Jennifer Dorr

Jennifer Dorr is the Women's Associate Head Volleyball Coach at Cal.

Jennifer Dorr, a former award-winning standout setter at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, became the associate head coach of the Golden Bears after serving as the interim head coach for the 2018 season. Previous to her move to the head seat, she spent five seasons as an assistant for the program.

As the head coach, Dorr moved the Golden Bears program in the right direction, including a 15-16 overall record, the most overall wins since 2013. She was also the first head coach for the volleyball program to go undefeated at home during nonconference in their first year at helm. Cal also recorded its most conference wins since 2013, totaling seven Pac-12 victories in 2018. Included in those wins were sweeps of Oregon State and a top-25 Washington State team. And, one of the most exciting wins came at Pauley Pavilion when Cal bested No. 20 UCLA, 3-0 to get its first win over the Bruins since 2013. Overall, the Bears dropped four ranked opponents, the most since 2011 when they pulled in five top-25 wins. In a very compelling year, Dorr also coached middle blockers Preslie Anderson and Lauren Forte and outside hitter Mima Mirkovic to all-conference honors.

As an assistant, Dorr shared recruiting duties and directed the program's summer camps, overseeing and promoting the sessions which draw about 400 players each summer. Since Dorr has been part of the Cal staff, the Golden Bears have boasted three top-10 recruiting classes since 2011, four All-Americans (Tarah Murrey, Christina Higgins, Joan Caloiaro, Lillian Schonewise), 15 All-Pac-12 selections, the 2011 Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year (Murrey), 40 Pac-12 All-Academic selections, three CoSIDA Academic All-District picks (Higgins, Maddy Kerr, Antzela Dempi) and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including advancing to the second round in 2013.

Promoted to assistant coach in January of 2011, she was originally hired as Cal's Director of Operations on Feb. 5, 2009. In that role, she was responsible for planning team travel and maintaining the program's budget while serving as the team liaison with the academic, financial aid, and business offices. Dorr has also served as a co-head coach for the Golden Bear Volleyball Club 14-1 squad from 2009-10.

In April of both 2010 and 2011, Dorr worked the Junior National Team and High Performance Tryouts. Dorr was instrumental in the USA A2 team tryout in February 2011 as part of the statistical analysis team. Additionally, she served as an assistant coach and technical coordinator for the USA Junior National Team in July 2010 for the NORCECA Championships in Tijuana, Mexico, where the US team won Gold.

Prior to arriving at Cal, Dorr served as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Working primarily as the offensive coordinator, she helped guide the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back 20-win seasons with a 21-10 record in 2008. Dorr was responsible for developing scouting reports and game-day offensive play sets as well as the technical development of outside hitters and middle blockers.

In addition to duties as the offensive coordinator at Georgia Tech, Dorr provided direction as a recruiter, travel coordinator, and as an assistant camp director. During her tenure, her efforts helped the Yellow Jacket program raise over $12,000 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation as a part of Dig for the Cure breast cancer initiative.

While with the Yellow Jackets, Dorr worked primarily with setters Allie Niekamp and Mary Ashley Tippins, helping the team to an offense average 15.68 kills and 14.68 assists per game in her first year on the Flats. Niekamp posted 1,117 assists despite missing nine matches due to illness, but still had the highest per-game average of her career (11.88) under Dorr's tutelage. The Laguna Beach, Calif., native, also assisted in Tippins' transition into college, as the Yellow Jacket freshman posted more than 500 assists and 100 digs despite starting just 11 matches her first year.

Dorr arrived at Georgia Tech by way of Texas A&M, where she was the director of volleyball operations from 2005-06. During her time in College Station, Texas, she also worked as the tournament director for the 2005 NCAA College Station Regional and other home tournaments for the Aggies, while occasionally joining the radio broadcasts for Aggie volleyball matches. She was also responsible for planning team travel and maintaining the equipment budget while serving as the liaison between the program and the academic, financial aid and business offices.

While living in College Station, Dorr served as the head coach of the Brazos Valley Volleyball Club from 2005-06. Her coaching experience extends further as she held a post as head coach for the Saddleback Valley Volleyball Club in Lake Forest, Calif. from 2004-05.

In 1999, Dorr was the starting setter for the Rainbow Wahine as a freshman where she earned All-Western Athletic Conference second-team honors. She helped lead Hawai'i to a 29-2 record, an NCAA regional semifinal appearance and a No. 8 final AVCA ranking in her first season. In her four-year career, Dorr took the Rainbow Wahine to two NCAA national semifinal appearances, two No. 3 rankings, and a 123-12 record. She earned All-WAC second team honors three times and finished her career ranked fourth all-time for Hawai'i with 3,540 assists. Dorr was selected to the WAC All-Academic team in each of her four years with the Rainbow Wahine.

Dorr's first collegiate match was a 3-0 (15-8, 15-7, 15-5) win against Cal on Sept. 1, 1999, at the Recreational Sports Facility in Berkeley, Calif. She had 33 assists to go along with 12 digs and three kills on five attacks. The match was also the first at Cal for former head coach Rich Feller.

Dorr graduated from Hawai'i with a degree in business administration in marketing in 2003. She then worked as a sales and marketing executive for KHNL and K5 Television in Honolulu before leaving the islands to play professional volleyball in the fall of 2004 with Brandenburg VCO in Berlin, Germany.

A 1999 graduate of Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach, Calif, Dorr was named to the Volleyball Magazine first team All-America list. She was recognized as the Gatorade West Region Player of the Year after leading her team to back-to-back California Interscholastic Federation Division Titles. Dorr also was a member of the Saddleback Valley Volleyball club team for 10 years.

Dorr resides in Danville, Calif. with her husband, John, a former All-American swimmer at Cal. The couple has twin daughters, Lily and Piper.
