Ken Kurtz - Assistant Coach

A proven winner and relentless competitor, Ken Kurtz brings elite-level playing experience and a passion for player development to the UMSV Men’s Soccer Coaching Staff. A former standout goalkeeper with NCAA Tournament and professional experience, Kurtz now turns his focus to shaping the next generation of talent.

Before joining UMSV for the Spring 2025 season, Kurtz played a key role in SUNY Maritime College’s success in Fall 2024, spearheading the team’s Strength & Conditioning Program, Goalkeeper Development, and Recruiting efforts. His impact was immediate, helping the Privateers to a strong 7-5-5 record.

As a player, Kurtz made history at the University of Mary Washington, where he was a three-year starter, team captain, and a driving force behind three consecutive Capital Athletic Conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances. He still holds program records for shutouts in a season (13) and career (27), as well as the best single-season (0.40) and career (0.55) goals-against averages. A three-time first-team all-conference and all-state selection, he earned First Team All-Region honors in 2019.

Following his collegiate career, Kurtz competed professionally in the USL Championship with Loudoun United and Hartford Athletic before transitioning to coaching. A 2021 graduate of Mary Washington with a degree in business administration, he now brings his expertise, leadership, and winning mentality to UMSV.
