Makenzy Johnson is the Head Volleyball Coach at West Liberty University.
"First-year Head Coach Makenzy Johnson leads the rise to new heights following the WLU Volleyball program's second straight NCAA Tournament bid during the 2023 season.
Johnson joined the West Liberty University women’s volleyball program as a graduate assistant coach for the 2023-24 academic year.A native of Chesterfield, Virginia, Makenzy played college volleyball at Norfolk State University (2018-20), University of Charleston (2020-21), and Virginia State University (2021-22). Throughout her career she tallied career totals of 128 kills, 1,269 assists, 103 aces, 475 digs, five blocks, and 234 points.
A familiar face in the world of coaching, Johnson brings a wealth of Club Volleyball Coaching knowledge to the Hilltop, formally coaching the Coastal Volleyball Club, Vantage Volleyball Club and Richmond Volleyball club during her time as a student-athlete.
Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Virginia State and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Education with a Sports Leadership and Coaching concentration from West Liberty. Makenzy is the daughter of Felicia and Derrick Johnson. Makenzy’s sister, Kendall, was a standout volleyball student-athlete at Shippensburg University while her father, Derrick competed on the gridiron at Kent State University. Makenzy resides in Wheeling, WV.
