Sean Matteo

Coach Sean Matteo is one of South Jersey’s most accomplished youth development coaches, known for elevating players across premier clubs, high‑level high school programs, and the prestigious New Jersey Olympic Development Program. With a reputation for building confident, technically sharp, and competitive young athletes, Sean brings exceptional experience, leadership, and passion to every training environment he leads.

A proud Pitman, NJ native, Sean began his playing journey at Pitman High School (2005–2009), where he led the Panthers in scoring his senior year and earned First Team Tri‑County Conference and Second Team South Jersey honors. His talent earned him a place with the Rutgers University Men’s Soccer program as a goalkeeper, where he excelled both on the field and in the classroom, earning American Athletic Conference All‑Academic Team recognition. He graduated in 2014 with degrees in exercise science and psychology, blending performance insight with player‑development expertise.

After college, Sean continued his playing career with the Ocean City Nor’easters Reserves and most recently with Phoenix SC in the United Soccer League of Pennsylvania. While with Phoenix, he competed in multiple state cup matches and was part of the roster during the club’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup qualifying run, adding high‑level competitive experience to his coaching toolkit.

Since 2014, Sean has built an impressive coaching résumé across New Jersey high school soccer. He has served as:

• Head Girls Coach – Pitman High School (2015–2017)
• Head Boys Coach – Holy Spirit High School (2017 & 2023–Present)
• Assistant Boys Coach – Buena High School (2018)
• Assistant Girls Coach – Absegami High School (2019)
• Head Boys Coach – Absegami High School (2020–2022)

Most recently, Sean led Ocean City High School Girls Soccer to a Cape Atlantic League Championship and a trip to the South Jersey Group 3 Final, reinforcing his reputation as a coach who elevates programs and maximizes player potential.

In addition to his high school success, Sean coaches with the New Jersey Olympic Development Program, working with some of the top emerging talent in the state. He holds USSF Licenses, multiple certifications through United Soccer Coaches and the NFHS, and is a New Jersey certified School Counselor, having completed his master’s degree in 2024. His academic background enhances his ability to connect with young athletes, foster confidence, and build positive learning environments.
