Steve Guppy

Steve Guppy, a former England international winger, brings a wealth of experience from both his distinguished playing career and his success as a coach at the highest levels of the game. With over 500 professional appearances, he made his mark in the Premier League with Leicester City and Newcastle United, starred for Scottish giants Celtic FC, and played in Major League Soccer with D.C. United. Recognizing the importance of mastering 1v1 situations—a skill that defined his own playing career—Guppy founded the 1v1 Formula, a unique youth development program designed to build confidence and creativity in players through specialized training and competitive 1v1 tournaments.

Transitioning into coaching, Guppy has earned his UEFA B and A licenses and has worked across the English Premier League, Championship, and international stage. His expertise was instrumental in the Republic of Ireland’s qualification for the 2016 European Championships, where he helped guide the team to historic victories over Germany and Italy.

In the U.S., Guppy has played a key role in shaping elite talent while working alongside Gary Smith, first winning the MLS Cup with the Colorado Rapids and later helping establish Nashville SC as a formidable force in Major League Soccer. Under his guidance, Nashville reached the playoffs in each of their first four seasons and advanced to the final of the inaugural Nations Cup. His training methods have been pivotal in the development of top players, including MLS MVP Hany Mukhtar and Canadian international Jacob Shaffelburg, who played a crucial role in Canada’s remarkable Copa America semifinal run.

With his vast playing experience, tactical acumen, and proven ability to develop top-level players, Guppy continues to be a driving force in the game, shaping the next generation of soccer talent.
