She holds a Master’s degree in the field of Counseling and Sport Psychology, from DePaul University and began her teaching career at GreenToTee Golf Academy, located in Glencoe, Illinois. Peter Donahue, owner of GreenToTee Golf Academy and co-author of the PGM Teaching Manual, was Leigh’s mentor and inspiration for loving the teaching aspect of golf. At GreenToTee golf academy Leigh instructed with PGA Tour Player and Teaching professional, Stan Utley, for three years in addition to working with renowned sport and fitness trainer, Al Vermeil. In 2006, at the age of 25, Leigh became a partner/owner of the Dynamic Golf Institute, located in Deerfield, Illinois. Founding a golf academy allowed her to explore her passion for teaching and develop a holistic training model for elite golfers, focusing on training the mental, the physical, and the mechanical, disciplines of golf performance training.
In 2009, Leigh accepted a teaching position at her childhood home course, Jefferson Country Club, located in Columbus, Ohio. Her experience and vision helped lead to the creation of a teaching academy within the membership that developed the women’s, junior and beginner golf programs. She additionally served as the Director of Instruction from 2011- 2015.
Today you can find her teaching at The Golf Depot at Central Park located in Gahanna, Ohio. At the Depot she partnered with PGA Teaching Professional, Gerry Hammond and The Hammond Golf Academy, where she continues to train golfers dynamically; focusing on multiple avenues of golf performance training. Together their students consist of over 25 of the top junior golfers in Central Ohio and 5 of the top 20 players in the state in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. As well as working with several of the top junior golfers in the area, she works closely with players at the collegiate level that currently attend Michigan State University, University of South Carolina, The Ohio University, University of Toledo, University of Akron, Queen’s College, UNC-Pembroke, Duke University, Michigan University, Rollins University, University of Youngstown, Elmhurst College, Marshall University, Austin Peay, Ohio Dominican, Ohio Wesleyan, UIPU, Morehead State, Marshall, University of West Virginia, Kent State University and Drexel University. She has continued to teach several students through their collegiate careers and excelled them into the professional ranks. Professional player, Ben Silverman, began working with Leigh in January 2010 in the area of fitness and biomechanics. Since they first began working together, Ben improved his standings on the Minor League Golf Tour located in South Florida from 33rd on the money list, climbing to 3rd within nine months of training. Ben continues to succeed on the PGA Canadian Tour and will play in several Web.com events this season.
Leigh’s specialized area of expertise takes a dynamic approach when teaching as she focuses on integrating biomechanics, swing mechanics and the mental skills to enhance a golfer’s performance. Her philosophy of teaching surrounds the idea that every golfer brings different skills, talents, and abilities to the table when he/she seeks instruction. Leigh prefers to enhance the positive points of a student’s golf swing; she analyzes the skills, talents and abilities each student possess and develops his/her golf game around those familiar concepts. This structure provides a creative atmosphere for building a golf game and teaches golfers how to become their own best coach.
