Don Showalter awarded 10th Consecutive USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year
Don Showalter, USA Basketball Men’s U17 Head Coach and Snow Valley Iowa Basketball Schools director, has been awarded the 2018 USA Basketball Developmental Coach of the Year alongside Carla Berube, USA Women’s U17 Head Coach. This is the 10th consecutive award for Coach Showalter who earned his first award back in 2009. This award comes to Coach Showalter after coming off a 7-0 record this season and gold medals this past summer at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup.
Since his first season as USA Basketball Coach for men’s U16 and U17, he has maintained a perfect record of 62-0. He has also led the men’s U16 national teams to gold medals in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2013, 2015, and 2017, and the men’s U17 national teams as top finishers for the 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, and 2018 FIBA U17 World Cups.
Coach Showalter was awarded this honor, not only because of the success he has brought USA basketball and his players, but because of the passion he inspires in his athletes. He has made a significant impact on each of their lives and has molded them to perform at the highest level. He is a leader and role model for these boys and holds them to a high ethical, professional, and moral standard.

Coach Showalter brings this same energy and ideals to his summer basketball camp in Iowa hosted at Wartburg College in Waverly. This overnight camp was created for the serious athlete, offering boys only and girls only sessions for ages 11-18.
