Nike Lacrosse Camps Congratulates Adelphi University Lacrosse On Their National Championship
#1 Adelphi University Women's Lacrosse Completes Triple Crown, Wins National Championship Over Lock Haven, 7-5
San Rafael, CA - Nike Lacrosse Camp Director and Adelphi University Head Coach, Rob Grella led the Panthers to the NE-10 Regular Season & Tournament Championship and NCAA Division II National Championship. In the end, the Panthers did it with defense and goaltending. The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team caused a total of 14 turnovers and got six big-time stops from Taylor Hayes to top Lock Haven, 7-5, and capture the program's NCAA-record sixth Division II National Championship on Sunday, May 18 in Salem, Virginia. With the win, the Panthers close out the 2014 season with a perfect record - a school record 22 wins and no losses. The Panthers have won a record six NCAA Division II National Championships and are 6-0 in National Championship games.
"I want to say congratulations to Lock Haven University," said Coach Grella. "They did an amazing job today for 60 minutes and had us on the ropes. I'm sure that their coaching staff is proud of them and that we'll see them around very soon. I think that anytime you play for a National Championship, issues are going to arise that you may not have faced before. But, our kids rose to the occasion and got the job done."
A 1997 and 2004 graduate of Adelphi University, Grella was a two-time First-Team All-American for the Panthers, helping the team to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II National Final. He was also named the NCAA Division II Attackman and Player of the Year in 1996 and played in the Division I USILA North/South All-Star game in 1997.
