Nike Ultimate Camps Sponsors Bay Area Disc Association’s 2016 Youth Ultimate Coaching Conference
(PR WEB) February 4, 2016 – For the third year in a row, Nike Ultimate Camps, a division of US Sports Camps, will sponsor the Bay Area Disc Association’s annual Youth Ultimate Coaching Conference which takes place March 5, 2016 at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, California.
Organized by the Bay Area Disc Association, the 2016 Youth Ultimate Coaching Conference (YUCC) brings together top non-profit leaders, ultimate organizations and coaches from around the US. The theme for this year’s conference is “Gender Equity and Girls Ultimate”. Valerio Iani, Bay Area Disc Program Director of Youth and Education, describes this year YUCC as “an important conversation we must have about how to make Ultimate a truly 'equal' sport and break down cultural and social barriers.” Iani hopes that through discussing playing opportunities for girls, gender equity guidelines and the importance of women in coaching, this conference will significantly contribute to the debate and effort of local Ultimate organizations worldwide.
This year’s conference Keynote Speech will be given by Marlene Bjornsrud, Executive Director of Alliance for Women's Coaches. The conference program will also include USA Ultimate's Dan Raabe, Sarah Powers and Heather Ann Brauer unveiling the latest on the Gender Equity Task Force and the Girls Ultimate Movement curriculum. Finally, non-ultimate organization leaders from Alliance for Girls, Girls on The Run and BAWSI will contribute different perspectives, as well as Qxhna Titcomb, founder of the eye-opening All-Star Ultimate Tour.
Valerio explains, “With its coed tradition, Ultimate is a leader in terms of gender equity, as was underlined by the IOC when it granted full recognition to the World Flying Disc Federation last year. However, we still have a long way to go with increasing girls' participation and making a more significant impact for female athletes. For example, one ongoing debate is whether mixed or single gender programming is more effective in bringing girls to the sport. The presentations and panels at this year’s conference will cover this and other critical issues to give organizations and coaches tools and best practices for growing girls' and women's Ultimate."
