NIKE Director named NFCA Division III Northeast Region Softball Staff of the Year

NIKE Softball Camp Director and SUNY Cortland softball head coach Julie Lenhart and her staff have been named the 2009 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III Northeast Region Softball Staff of the Year. Cortland's head coach since 1995, Lenhart has now been honored on the regional level six times (East in 1997, Northeast in 1998, 2003, 2004, 2008 and 2009). Posner and Schanbacher have served on Lenhart's coaching staff since the 2000 season. Schanbacher also coached on the junior varsity level in 1999 and played for the Red Dragons in 1997 and 1998. Cross joined the coaching staff this spring and played at Cortland from 2000-03.

This spring, Cortland finished the season with a 44-9 record to establish a new school single-season record for victories. The Red Dragons won the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular-season title and earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III playoffs. Cortland advanced to the Division III World Series for the second straight year and tied for seventh nationally.

In 15 seasons at Cortland, Lenhart has posted an overall record of 479-200-1 (.705). She has guided the Red Dragons to nine NCAA tournament appearances, including five World Series showings.
