Claremont Mckenna College Head Volleyball Coach Kurt Vlasich earns National Coach of the Year
Nike Camp Director and Head Coach at Claremont Mckenna earned DIII National Coach of the Year for the 2021 season.
Head Volleyball Coach and Nike Camp Director at Claremont McKenna College, Kurt Vlasich, earned the Division III National Coach of the Year Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association in November 2021. After a one-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Vlasich led his team to success after facing many obstacles. This high honor is well deserved as Vlasich's successful coaching has led his team to victory in former seasons.
In the last seven seasons, Vlasich led his program to its third regional title, with an undefeated 16-0 record in their conference and a 31-2 overall record for the season. The Mudd-Scripps started the season strong with a win over UC Santa Cruz, a nationally ranked team, in their opening game, as well as defeating the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams on the same day, in the following week.
This award comes as no surprise as Vlasich made program history when he led the Claremont McKenna College to their first national title in 2017. Out of Coach Vlasich’s 9 seasons with the team, this will be his 6th year winning a Coach of the Year title, and his first national honor. In 2018, he earned a dual honor of the SCIAC and AVCA West Region Coach of the Year. The AVCA West Region Coach of the Year title was not new to him as he also won this honor in 2013 and 2015. Additionally, he was named SCIAC Coach of the Year in 2014 & 2017.
In summer 2022, Coach Vlasich and his staff will return to the highly sought-after summer volleyball camps. This summer camp offers elite-level coaching, with the opportunity to learn new techniques through skill-building drills and competitive gameplay in a fun and safe environment.
