Improve your game and have serious fun
at Nike Pickleball Camps

This summer, we are excited to introduce a brand new junior camp experience that brings together both tennis and pickleball in one unforgettable week. Located in the beautiful coastal setting of Monterey, this camp is designed for players ages 8 to 14 who are new to the game or already building their skills and looking to improve while having fun.

Campers will train in both sports each day, learning fundamentals, improving technique, and building confidence through games, drills, and match play. Our coaching staff creates a positive and energetic environment where players can learn, compete, and make friends while enjoying one of the most scenic camp locations in California.
This is a unique opportunity for young athletes to experience two of the fastest growing racquet sports in one exciting camp setting.

Camp Coaches

  • Richard Snelling

    Camp Director

    Richie, grew up in Monterey, co-owns and manages the Monterey Tennis Center with his brother Monty.

    He graduated Summa Cum Laude in accounting and is now the Varsity Tennis Coach at Santa Catalina School. Additionally, Richie has an athletic background, having played for the tennis team at Grand Canyon University along with completing Ironman Arizona in 2019.

  • Javier Vargas

    Camp Director

    Javi, a Monterey native, excels in tennis and pickleball, both coaching and competing at high levels. He began at the Monterey Tennis Center and the Hyatt Regency, igniting his passion.

    Alongside coaching, Javi actively competes in local leagues and tournaments. Getting 3rd place in the La Barra Pro Am Invitational. Currently, he's an assistant coach at Santa Catalina and the head pickleball teaching pro at the Hyatt Regency, leaving a lasting mark on the local sports community.

  • Jim Somerville

    Coach

    Meet Jim Somerville, a graduate of the University of Hawaii with a degree in Travel Industry Management, renowned for his prowess in tennis and passion for pickleball. With an ATP singles ranking of 778 and doubles ranking of 445, Jim's journey includes being #1 Open singles player in Hawaii and the #2 18 and under singles player.

    As Tennis Director and Head Coach at the Monterey Bay Racquet Club, Jim inspires the next generation while showcasing his love for both tennis and pickleball. Notably, he was the former coach of 2023 D1 NCAA Champion Ethan Quinn and serves as the Varsity Head Coach for Monterey High School Boys and Girls teams.

CAMP PROGRAM INFORMATION & CURRICULUM

  • Camp Type(s) Offered: Day Camp (Monday-Thursday 9:00am-3:00pm, Friday 9:00am-2:45pm)
  • Gender: Coed
  • Age Range: 8-14
  • Skill Level: Beginner & Intermediate

Campers will rotate between tennis and pickleball sessions throughout the week to ensure balanced development in both sports. Each session is structured to build skills, improve movement and coordination, and help players feel comfortable competing in game situations.

Training focuses on stroke development, footwork, positioning, and strategy. Players will participate in drills, coach led instruction, and supervised play designed specifically for beginner and intermediate skill levels.

SKILL LEVELS & GROUP PLACEMENT

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Participants are then sorted by ability first, then age per the Camp Director's discretion - adjustments are made as needed during camp.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Camp Directors at Nike Pickleball Camps will use to organize and group camp participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your experience:

  • Beginner: Players at this level are new to pickleball and have little to no experience. They can hit basic shots and possess a fundamental understanding of the rules, scoring, and court positioning. Focus is on building confidence and familiarity with the game. (No rating or DUPR rating 1.0 - 2.5)

  • Intermediate: Players at this level understand the rules and strategy of pickleball and can sustain rallies using a mix of shots. They can hit with some spin and accuracy, resulting in fewer unforced errors. Focus is on refining technique, improving court awareness, and developing strategic play. (DUPR rating 3.0-3.5)

  • Check-in: 5:00pm on Friday
  • Check-out: 1:00pm on Sunday

MEALS

  • Meals are NOT included in the camp tuition cost. Please come prepared with your own lunch, water and any additional snacks.

EQUIPMENT & FACILITY

  • Equipment Needed: All campers must bring a pickleball paddle, athletic shoes and a water bottle. A suggested packing list is included at the bottom of this page.

CANCELLATION POLICIES *PLEASE READ CAREFULLY*

Cancellations, for any reason, received at least seven (7) days before camp start date, will result in a camp VOUCHER for all tuition fees paid, valid through the following calendar year. Your VOUCHER is transferable to any family member and may be used for any sport. Cash refunds will be given only with the purchase of Cancellation Protection (see terms below). Those who cancel their camp session within seven (7) days of the camp start date will receive a camp VOUCHER for 50% of the camp tuition. Individuals who DO NOT attend their registered session (no-shows) will forfeit their full tuition payment.

Please note: Any camper with an unpaid balance 10 days before camp will forfeit all camp fees paid to date and be removed from the camp.

Cancellation by US Sports Camps
  • In the unlikely event that US Sports Camps cancels your camp session, we will refund only your camp tuition and registration fee. Camper waives any and all damages that may otherwise arise out of any camp cancellation and agrees to accept as liquidated damages said registration fees.
Cancellation Protection
  • US Sports Camps offers our camp families Cancellation Protection for $100 per session, due at the time of registration. Cancellation Protection entitles you to a full refund of your camp tuition fees paid to date (Please note: $100 Cancellation Protection and Registration fee are non-refundable.) if you cancel for any reason before your final payment date (the first day of the month prior to the month your camp begins, i.e. final pay date of May 1st for any camp in your sport beginning in the month of June). Cancellation Protection is not available for purchase when using a voucher credit towards camp tuition.
  • With Cancellation Protection, if you cancel after your final payment due date, we will issue you a camp voucher for your tuition payments made. Your camp voucher will be transferable to an immediate family member and can be used for any sport. For camps taking place in 2024, camp vouchers are valid through 2025.
Accommodations and Travel
  • These are Day Camps only; housing is not included in the camp tuition. Campers are responsible for arranging their own overnight accommodations.
  • US Sports Camps, the Camp Director, the staff, and the host facility are not liable for any travel arrangements, including but not limited to flights, hotels, Airbnb’s, or rental cars.
  • We recommend booking travel accommodations that are refundable or flexible, in case of any changes to the camp schedule.
