The Nike Girls Soccer ID Camp at the University of San Diego offers a premier opportunity to be seen, coached, and evaluated by the USD Women’s Soccer Division I coaching staff. Built for ambitious high school players with collegiate aspirations, this camp delivers an authentic college-level training and evaluation experience on USD’s campus. Players will compete in a challenging environment that mirrors the expectations of NCAA Division I soccer.

    Greg LaPorte

    Head Coach

    Greg LaPorte was named the next head coach of San Diego women's soccer late in 2023. LaPorte joins the Toreros from nearby UC San Diego, where he had worked as an assistant coach since 2018. He returns to Alcala Park to serve as the fifth head coach in program history after spending five seasons (2011-2015) as an assistant under Ada Greenwood.

    A San Diego native, LaPorte helped guide UC San Diego through its transition to NCAA Division I. After winning the 2018 CCAA regular season, CCAA Tournament and NCAA West Regional title, LaPorte and the Tritons repeated as conference champions in their final season in Division II.

    Once UC San Diego officially transitioned to Division I and joined the Big West Conference, LaPorte assisted the Tritons as they improved their conference record in each season from 2021 to 2023.

    During his first stint as a Torero, LaPorte helped lead San Diego to two NCAA Tournament appearances, including the program's most recent appearance in 2014 and the Toreros' deepest run in 2011, which saw the team reach the Sweet 16. His coaching career began in 2007 at his alma mater, nearby Poway High School. He made his first foray into collegiate coaching at UC San Diego, instructing the Tritons' goalkeepers from 2007 to 2010.

    LaPorte competed professionally from 1999 to 2002, beginning with training with Manchester City and Doncaster Rovers. From there, LaPorte competed for Amparo Atletico in Brazil, as well as stints in the Oberliga and Regionaliga in Germany and in Italy.

    Matt Hall enters his first season as an assistant coach with the USD women's soccer program in 2024, after being added to the staff in February of 2024.

    Hall has deep roots in San Diego and in Alcala Park. He returns to the University of San Diego where he played for the men's soccer team from 1999-2000 as Toreros' starting goalkeeper. A native of San Diego, Hall has most recently split two high-profile coaching duties. Hall has overseen the role as head coach of MiraCosta College, where he led the program from 2019 through the end of the 2023 season.

    In addition, Hall was an assistant coach for the USL side San Diego Loyal, where he oversaw the goalkeepers and center backs, as well as serving as head coach for the Loyal select team in the USL Academy League. During his time with the select team, Hall helped lead two players into professional deals with the senior club and helped dozens more join four-year program at the collegiate level.

    While at MiraCosta, Hall led the program to a 31-6-3 record over two seasons and was named the Pacific Coast Conference Coach of the Year, as the program went on to win the PCC championship.

    Prior to his work at MiraCosta and with the Loyal, Hall spent nearly 19 years with the San Diego State men's program, first as an assistant coach from 2001 to 2013, before being promoted to an associate head coach for the program from 2013 to 2020. Under his leadership, the San Diego State men's program developed a strong reputation for producing at the goalkeeper position, including two-time All-American Tally Hall and all-time saves leader Brian Barnes, among many others.

    During his time at San Diego State, the program produced 13 MLS SuperDraft picks, two All-Americans and 10 All-Far West Region honorees. In addition, Hall was the director of recruiting and helped sign nine, top-40 recruiting classes during his tenure.

    Hall graduated from the University of San Diego in 2000 with a degree in history, and also graduated from Vista High School in 1996. Hall earned his USSF National B License in 2008.

    Following her standout career as both a player at USD and in the professional ranks, Jackie Altschuld makes her return to San Diego as an assistant coach for the 2024 season.

    Altschuld played for the Toreros from 2013-17. Following her tenure as a player, Altschuld turned her attention to her professional and coaching career. Most recently, Altschuld had been the girls soccer head coach at Viewpoint High School. Prior to that, Altschuld worked alongside head coach Greg LaPorte as a volunteer assistant coach at UC San Diego from 2018 to 2023, as she aided the program through their transition to Division I.

    Prior coaching experience includes a stint as the girls 2015s head coach of the La Jolla Impact youth team in 2022-23 and as an assistant coach at Francis Parker High School and El Camino Real Charter High School.

    On the pitch, Altschuld recently finished up a seven-year, professional playing career, most recently serving a team captain for FC Honka in Finland. Before that, Altschuld spent the 2022 season playing for the San Diego Wave in the NWSL.

    Prior to her time with the Wave, Altschuld played for three seasons at Tindastóll in Iceland, where she was a prolific player for the club. Altschuld tallied nine goals and 13 assists in 2019 and helped the club finish third. In 2020, Altschuld scored seven goals and nine assists over 18 games and was named to the 2020 Team of the Year, as she helped lead the club to the Pepsi Max division for the first time in team history by winning the Lengjudeild League Championship. Altschuld would start all 18 games in her final season with the club in 2021.

    Her professional career began with 10 appearances at Medkila IL in Norway in 2017, before joining DFK Varmbol in Sweden in 2018.

    Over her decorated four-year career as a Torero, Altschuld shined, scoring 17 goals and adding 18 assists, while playing in 78 games. A four-year letter winner and team captain, Altschuld was a two-time All-WCC First Team honoree and earned at least one All-WCC distinction all four years, while also being named to the WCC All-Freshman Team.

    In addition, Altschuld earned All-NCAA West Region honors in 2014. During her time as a Torero, Altschuld helped lead the Toreros to an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014. Altschuld ranks in a tie for fourth on the Toreros all-time points list with 52 and in a tie for sixth in assists with 18.

    Altschuld graduated from the University of San Diego in 2017, with a degree in communication studies.

Coach Greg LaPorte has designed this camp to maximize player participation and ensure each camper can showcase their skills in a wide range of technical, physical, and tactical activities. The Nike Girls Soccer ID Camp at the University of San Diego provides an opportunity to showcase your game in front of the USD Women’s Soccer coaching staff while experiencing the pace, demands, and competition of NCAA Division I training.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

  • Instruction: Training from the USD women's coaching staff
  • Supervision: Staff members are strategically placed throughout the camp to provide optimal supervision and participate in all activities

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT, & FACILITY

  • Ratio: Low camper to coach ratio of 1:10
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience
  • Equipment Needed: All campers must bring soccer cleats, shin guards, athletic shoes, and a water bottle. Please bring flats in case of inclement weather, we will train indoors.
  • Facility: Campers train on Manchester Village Field
  • Medical Protocol: We will have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

Usd Nike Soccer Facility Torero Stadium

Torero Stadium, first built in 1961, is the home of the University of San Diego football and soccer programs. The stadium, which underwent two phases of renovation, is perfect for an exciting athletic atmosphere inside its cozy confines.

These recent renovations were completed to host the WUSA San Diego Spirit, with over $3.5 million dollars spent to enlarge the seating areas and add spectator comforts. Torero stadium capacity is now 6,000 for Pioneer Football League action, as well as West Coast Conference Soccer play.
