SKILL LEVELS
Youth Academy is for Boys grades K-4th and will focus on team building, social skills, and technical skill development. The emphasis of the camp is to help the youngest players foster a love of the game! Camps will include individual instruction, world cup day and theme-based days, short-sided games, and scrimmages each day. We will also include additional soccer-themed enrichment activities throughout the three weeks such as art, Soccer story-time, and other fun!
Junior Premier Camp is for our more seasoned 4th - 6th grade Club Level campers we offer specialized training sessions and an elevated soccer camp for club level players focused on high-level skills training for your advanced soccer player! Our coaches focus on technical development, improving tactical awareness, and increasing decision-making ability in order to conquer more challenging game situations.
POD POINTS & STICKERS
Each of the individual days of the week is also broken down into a Character Skill and a Soccer Skill. Throughout the week campers can earn Pod Points for their groups when they display one of the Character Skills or Soccer Skills throughout each day. Pod Points can also be earned for working towards improving their soccer juggling (Juggle Master) or from a creative soccer skill (Joga Bonito).
At camp, each coach carries a red and yellow card like a referee. At San Francisco Soccer Camp these cards are only used for positive acknowledgment. So when a camper is shown a red or yellow card it’s because they are earning one of the following Pod Points (which are given out in the form of a sticker).
We have a three-week tracker that coaches use to track and record stickers given in order to ensure every camper does end up receiving at least 7 out of the 9 stickers. The only two that your camper might not receive is the Juggle Master and Joga Bonito sticker as they are only given out to two campers each day.
The stickers are intended to be earned and meaningful and the coaches provide a speech at the end of the day where they acknowledge the campers who received yellow/red cards, they recap the reason the sticker was earned and issue the sticker.
- Mondays: Soccer Skill: Dribbling (change of direction) | Character Skill: Respect
- Tuesdays: Soccer Skill: Dribbling (to beat an opponent) | Character Skill: Responsibility
- Wednesdays: Soccer Skill: Passing | Character Skill: Integrity
- Thursdays: Soccer Skill: Shooting | Character Skill: Leadership
- Fridays: Soccer Skill: Game day | Character Skill: Sportsmanship
JUNIOR PREMIER WEEKLY FOCUS
Week 1 - Individual
All staff members are trained and certified through the Positive Coaches Alliance. The training helps staff gain the tools to coach while instilling a growth mindset in each camper so that they focus more on their individual improvement/growth and less on competition and results. Also, in order to incorporate the theme of “Self” we include individual art projects and throughout the week will talk about their own personal soccer stories as they relate. Players will have the opportunity to learn more about their coaches and their soccer journey that landed them as collegiate players or college coaches.
Week 2 - Team
This week we are focused on the TEAM and working together to achieve common goals. Each pod comes up with their own team name and team chant. For this week players will have deeper discussions about the teams that their coaches have played for and lessons learned from being on a team. Coaches will share their favorite moments and stories about how being a part of a team has impacted their lives.
Week 3 - Futbol Around the World
This will be the World Cup-themed week. Campers will learn about different countries and their cultures and how soccer has helped bring people together from all over the world. This week, coaches will focus on facilitating discussions around teams that players are familiar with and begin to discuss different styles of play from different teams around the world. An emphasis will be on helping campers understand the value of studying soccer when watching teams play to better understand various styles of play.
YOUTH ACADEMY WEEKLY FOCUS
Week 1 - Individual
All of our staff members are trained and certified through the Positive Coaches Alliance. The training helps our staff gain the tools to coach while instilling a growth mindset in each camper so that they focus more on their individual improvement/growth and less on competition and results. Also, in order to incorporate the theme of “Self” we include individual art projects and throughout the week will talk about their own personal soccer stories as they relate. Art is limited to 30 minutes, so there is still plenty of time for soccer! The coaches and campers spend time during circles sharing information about themselves and also about their soccer story in order to start building relationships with campers. Also, we have a short reading time (about 5-7 min max) focused on learning about professional players and their soccer story and the impact they had both in soccer and life.
Week 2 - Team
EACH POD HAS A TEAM FOCUS and works together to achieve common goals. Each pod comes up with their own team name and team chant. For art this week we use 30 minutes per day to collaborate with one another to design something spectacular! We are still reading for about 5-7 minutes and are learning about different teams in the book 5 of The World’s Greatest Clubs (World Soccer Legends).
Week 3 - Futbol as a World Sport
This will be our World Cup-themed week. Campers will learn about different countries and their cultures and how soccer has helped bring people together from all over the world.

“This has been such a positive experience for my son! He comes home everyday proud of his accomplishments and sharing stories of how much fun he had at camp. This is his first time being part of an organized team sport, and he loves it! Thanks to you and all the coaches for providing a safe, fun, challenging, and overall great summer camp during this difficult time!”

The past three weeks have been the highlight of our son’s summer...
“The past three weeks have been the highlight of our son’s summer, and we know that the experience has shaped him in ways that we are still discovering as he makes comments here and there about it. We look forward to supporting SFSC, and to participating in future activities. Again, our sincere appreciation for your willingness to host a camp, and shouldering the responsibilities that came with it.”

he was excited and most importantly MOTIVATED
“Our son had participated in a different camp the first session and there was no comparison. He would whine how much he didn’t want to go. Instead with your program, he was excited and most importantly MOTIVATED to go everyday and work really hard.”
— M.S. (From SFSC Testimonial)

The program was well thought out and managed
“Our son, S---, had a wonderful experience. The program was well thought out and managed. Mixing in arts and crafts was perfect to break up the day. Best of all, the stickers. S--- LOVED earning the stickers. It wasn’t the sticker itself but the value associated with each. He really tried hard to exhibit the behavior/skills to earn the sticker. It was one of the few times something like that has worked for S--. All of it wouldn’t be possible without your secret weapon, you staff and coaches.”
